This is nothing to be worried about. Its not like this debris is going to slaughter millions of animals or kill humans. It is just a nuisance and it will be cleared within months from the majority of the coastline that people actually use. Not to mention the coast line is huge and the debris will likely spread out meaning it will have a much smaller impact then any oil spill that I know of has!

It could probably be cleaned up within days of landing. A crew comes out and works two three days on each major beach and woolah its all gone!

You did read that it said 20 million tons right! When a landfill lands on a beach all at once, across the whole state of California or more, it becomes a much bigger problemo.

Yah I realize twenty million tons. But I saw the press release here in Canada as well and the debris is supposed to be spread across the whole Western Coast line. So from A little below California the whole way up to Alaska only 20-million tons, if it is spread out over the whole Western Coast line it shouldn't be a huge disaster for the beaches to get cleaned. Most of the coast isn't inhabited and the debris will just rot or sink or something.

The only way I see it being a huge huge problem is if the debris is concentrated on certain parts of the coast and not spread out! If it is all concentrated then it could be a major problem but if it breaks up and is spread out over the entire western coast line it shouldn't be as big of an issue!

Actually early morning beach combers will probably enjoy picking up junk that is washed ashore. The Dead bodies not so  much. Not sure if that oil spill turned out to be that bad though in the end?

do you really think there will be anything of a dead body left after 3 years?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

If it is stuck in the debris then yes. I am sure if that is the case it will actually be a godsend for people who have been looking for their loved ones, and can finally put them to rest. But U are right fish ,and other forms of decomposing will probably get most of them. What about bones?

i suppose the bones will eventually sink. i don't think there will be much left to reach the shores
