Are they suggesting that movie discs in general will go away or just DVD's? To suggest disc media will just vanish is insane. After 1080p it will be some crazy high res like 4k, please tell me how we are streaming 4k videos? Most ISP's have limits on bandwidth and if they don't they are switching towards it.

Yeah thats why i dont believe disc based media, especially for movies, is going anywhere.  They are getting close to publishing the UHDTV standards.  it will have 16 times the resolution of current HD TVs.  That will make file sizes huge for DD,  and like you said with ISPs have bandwidth caps that will make things difficult.  

20 years ago the internet was barely a thing.  15 years ago 56k modems were unheard of.  10 years ago 256kb DSL was lightning speed.

You're telling me technology doesn't advance?  Streaming media is now *the* thing and it's only going to become more and more popular.  The ISP's that do have bandwidth caps will eventually have to get rid of them or lose their customers.  It's very easy to see a future only 10 years down the line where disc based media isn't the dominant thing.  Streaming is getting better and better and it's getting easier and easier to get internet to further out places.  It's not hard to imagine a future only 10 years out where popping a disc in a try is as foreign to kids as blowing on a Nintendo cart.

As for CD/DVD writeable media, there's no doubt in my mind people will eventually stop using those as storage.  It was never a good solution because it has always been so slow.  Sure, it can store a lot of stuff, but it also takes 10-15 minutes to write a DVD.  We already have incredibly cheap USB drives and the cloud.

All-in-all, this is a pretty safe article and most of those things (even consoles) are common sense.  Gaming will stay around, it's just likely that there won't be a gaming first dedicated device hanging around your living room.

Man, I just can't watch VHS anymore (and I still have a VHS player :-p).  It's not just the quality but mainly because it's so hard to find anything in widescreen and VHS.  I remember just before DVD's really caught on trying to find wide screen VHS movies was a nightmare, I can only imagine trying to find them now.

I have a Half Price Books and a Movie Trading Company near me, but I haven't looked at their VHS selection in years (other than noticing that movies are generally $0.25-0.75).

To tell you the truth, I actually can't remember the last movie I bought.  I use to buy DVD's every Tuesday (new movie Tuesday I use to call it) and had a massive movie collection.  It was so massive when I sold most of them I was able to get a PS3.  As soon as I got Netflix though, I started buying less and less mobies.  Now that instant watch is getting better and better and movies on demand are getting better, I can't remember the last movie I bought.

Lol that's hilarious, I almost forgot VHS only had like 1 episode of shows on them. Funny stuff, getting old bro eventually you'll deny new technology!
