GoTY will be between Uncharted and Zelda probably. Judging by the quality of Skyrim videos I have seen thus far I just don't see that game winning anything.

Elder Scrolls never looks amazing in gameplay videos, it's when you play it yourself for an extended time that you begin to appreciate it

After having tried the previous game I don't think so. I can't really give me full opinion on this website or i'll get banned. :(

I think oblivion is overrated myself. Skyrim has to do some things differently and it will be pretty cool.

Why do you guys say Oblivion is overrated

I mean theres a few irritating aspects to the game but the gameplay is some of the best of any game.

And Skyrim looks pretty dam good in videos so far, the only issue i had was that they've been showing the same area, with similar playthroughs.

Don't be sad, its just my opinion. I think its too repetitive for me the, landscape is the same everywhere. The story disappointing.

I was very surprised that that game got so many awards and stuff, but I think it won't be that lucky this time around. From the reviews I could see that a lot of people liked it, but that was 5 years back. The level design needs to be improved by a huge margin for it to be anywhere close to a GOTY. I don't have that kind of faith in bethesda because all their games rely on repetitive landscapes. What usually makes their games great is some kind of variety in quests and unfortunately oblivion failed to provide that imo.

But very few iterations of high class franchises seem to get average reviews so I will probably be wrong.

lol im not sad it was just a sad face

Hmmm yeah the graphics, the dungeons, the open planes etc. are kinda samey and perhaps even the towns are kinda samey. The main story, agree again i didnt even play the main storyline. But id group those issues under "irritating aspects".

I bought the game because it got all those awards from reviews, and i just wanted to see what the rave was about. I was dissapointed at first. Id like to know how much time you spent on it? You also say it doesnt have variety...that to me indicates that maybe you couldnt stomach the game long enough to truly experience why people love it (i duno im just guessing here apologies if im wrong). But the game had the most variety id ever seen in any game. And its not meaningless variety it variety that actually is different and gives a different experience. I think they spent a lot of time actually working on the various guilds and the storylines and gameplay that goes with each guild, and thats maybe why other aspects of the game was lacking.

Anyways this thread is about Uncharted, so maybe we a bit too off topic. But id say you should give Oblivion another go...and definately atleast give skyrim a chance.

Going off topic is ok as long as it doesn't derail the thread.... lol.

I spent around 25 hours on it and completed the game. I found the guild system very complicated, sort of. Not all guilds are open to you, and honestly I can't really play a game just to waste my time around doing side stuff. The side content should only compliment the main game. In a way you are right. I didn't do much of side quests stuff, but the one's which I did were very similar. They were usually fetch quests. Fetch this, kill that.. earn money or some item. For comparison fallout 3 had some amazing side quests like destroying megaton and finding one of the androids.....New vegas had tons of questing in new vegas. And unlike oblivion these games made it easy to find the quests as well....

I also severely hate the levelling system in oblivion which I consider broken.

Edit: 25 hours without factoring death and stuff, so in reality its probably 35 hours because I backtracked a lot of times.

aah we okay then

From your point of view then it would seem like a overrated game. I found the main storyline to be boring and tedious, so i left it and did everything else. The thing about the guilds and the sidequests is that they not sidequests or side stories in the true sense of the word. I would say the way they structured the main story and guild quests was like the developer saying "right heres the world, heres the cicumstances , now go do or become whatever the fuck you want". Whether thats the hero of the world and saving the day or all the way to the top of a certain guild, or neither, its up to you. Its as if everything is fully fleshed out. The junk thing though is that you get a player like you who wants to play the main storyline, and then gets burned cos the main storyline is pretty weak.

Id say you should rather approach the game differently, instead of seeing it as a game that has a main story line and side quests rather look at it as a completely open and free world and you are a character in this world free to forge your own destiny . This way you wont even distinguish between main and side quests. And thats the strong point of the game.

I spent close to a 100 hours on the game( Consideraly less if we just counting actual game time so maybe +-80 hours). I hardly touched on the main quests, i completed the theives guild quests, did a lot of dueling in the gladiator arena thing, dabbled in a bit of the warriors guild and i tried really hard to get into the mage guild again but aparently i killed a mage in the guild so i couldnt join something like that.

Anyways the thieves guild quests was amazing! Gameplay elements focused on sneaking, stealing, etc. then you move on to becomming the actual guild master! i was amazed at how much depth and detail a side quest was given! The dungeons and areas you discover just from doing that guilds quest was crazy.I remember coming towards the end of the quests for the theives guild and i had to get something or do something in a dungeon....it felt great. Puzzle, platforming, timing and fighting elements all merged in these final quests leading up to becoming the guild master. Not to mention the insane loot and armours you can get at this stage.

The warriors guild obviously had a focus on fighting etc. The mage guild on summoning and casting. So yeah i found the variety crazy.

I agree that the quests, guilds and having certain requirements to join a guild was terribly frustrating and irritating. Not being able to join a guild cos i by mistake killed one of them long ago (when i was stil starting out) urgh. Not to mention the game breaking bugs. Not being able to heal from a vampire etc. And its not like demons souls where you know your actions have permanent effects....and any consequences is harsh but fair. Here it seems random and more like a bug than a game design choice.

But i think in the end, and most reviewers and gamers probably agree is that with bethesdas games, the positives usually outweigh the negatives in a significant way.

Surprisingly, i couldnt stand fallout 3....i bought it played it for a few hours and traded it in. lol. I guess we are opposites!

This game comes out in 17 hours or the next review comes out?

I'm guessing he is referring to the Review embargo that will be lifting soon

So when places like ign say they are working on a review, they are actually just waiting for this embargo to go away so they can post what they got?

well if they say they are still working on it they might just be writing it still. But the print embargo was lifted a few days back and the online media etc embargo will be lifted tomorrow morning (pst) so ign, GT, Gamespot, 1up etc will all be posting their reviews tomorrow..around 12-13 hours to go I reckon

Ohhhhhhhhhhh no... the site gave 9.6/`10 to Uncharted 2.

I honest to god don't get how a reviewer can lower points off of Uncharted for being too linear. It just seems so backwards. If they want a damned open world game, then go play one.

After reading through that review, they didn't dock it just because it was linear.  It was also because it has issues in regards to its stealth elements.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.  Congratulations, Uncharted just got trolled.  There's supposed to be stealth elements in Uncharted?
