Sad,this is probably going to be a flop most likely.Judging on what happened with Rare. When Microsoft acquired Rare they totally sucked. They didn't make anything good under Microsoft.Sad to say that drought still continues till this day.

Sony just shut down 3 studios earlier this year. http://gamerant.com/sony-closes-3-studios-developers-laid-off-seb-76932/ They also laid off a lot of employees when they "restructured" their UK studios. http://www.develop-online.net/news/37253/Jobs-on-the-line-as-Sony-cuts-UK-projects These are all the same things you're slamming Microsoft for doing. I would suggest you get your head out of the dark place you've placed it in. Sony is not benevolent, Microsoft is not evil. They are businesses that will take appropriate action when a section of their business isn't performing. Do you think they bought Twisted Pixel without their agreement? Obviously TP see the benefit in the purchase and they don't fear their oppressive new overlords. |
You kind of have a point but, if anyone has the best developers in the buisiness its Sony. They have games coming out left and right. They have QUALITY games releasing. Not only that but they multi-task with making PC games also.exapmle:Planet Side 2,DC Universe.
I dont know if its Microsoft's fault that these studios went missing but,I definitely blame Rare's recent troubles on Microsoft.

Hey, I'm not arguing any of that. Sony collectively has the best studios, no doubt, that is their biggest strength. My only point is that they are a business just like Nintendo and Microsoft and they don't simply have those studios out of the goodness of their hearts. They just have a different philosophy when it comes to games, Microsoft prefers to use companies like Epic to make flagship titles, Sony prefers to have a lot of first party studios instead. We all know MS has the cash to go buy studios if they wanted to.
Microsoft has had great luck with some first party studios, not so much with others, but they don't just shut places down arbitrarily and you can't assume that because they've decided to close some studios (while keeping MANY of those employees by the way) that that is somehow their modus operandi. Also, Microsoft has opened something like 4 or 5 new studios recently (I can't remember the exact number). This will probably work out better for them than buying an already established studio.
The difference between Rare and TP is that they've worked a lot with TP already and both parties know what to expect from the other, they had never worked with Rare before they bought them. Having said that, Rare has still put out some great games this gen.
