Sony never moneyhat and they most certainly did not pay WB $450 million for their support

ROFLMFAO!!!! Yeah, cause M$ is making a ton of money with the 360. There only saving grace has been HALO. They are still losing money on hardware, and have already lost billions in repair costs due to there crappy console. Sony however is still outselling the 360 with the PS2 while making money on every one sold, and are making money on the PSP as well. In the mean time M$ is paying hundreds of millions to obtain timed exclusives and temporary HD-DVD backers. Yup, they are brilliant for sure. |
Wrong, Microsoft makes money on their hardware, and they atleast are making a profit NOW(unlike sony, btw i love sony). It is true that PS2 and PSP sales are used to recoup the money lost on PS3, but still, they have lost aproximately almost all the money they earned from PS1 and PS2.

When Warner releases their big movies on Br only thats when.
I am Legand ohh yahh!!!
Sony might be losing money on the Ps3 and on Blu-Ray but last I heard Blu Ray drives and laser diodes costs were on the decrease. Plus, if Blu-Ray becomes the standard, they wil get alot of money from licensing and manufacturing, not to mention rising sales of the psp and the ps2 (still selling). I am sure sales can help offset financial loses caused by Blu-Ray. At the end, When Blu-Ray wins they will probably gain much more money than they lost.
Well... in theory that's that. Unless Toshiba and co pull out a miracle this decides BR over HD DVD.
Assuming there is no such miracle this must boost PS3 sales globally.
As for money - something must have passed hands. Most likely incentives in contract form (say Sony and BDA pay for BR promotions x amount, etc. or reduce their BR royalty for a period of time).
With Warners and Disney on board and the existing knowledge Speilberg films were exempt from the HD exclusive contract and (apparently) even the porn industry embracing BR it looks like we're going to see the studious start working together to convice us to buy the back catalogue all over again and transition us from DVD to BR...
But not me this time, what's on DVD stays on DVD...
Unfortunately for the PS3 a much cheaper Blu-Ray player and Blu-Ray/HD-DVD player will be out in spring.
All this sony fanboy bullshit aside, i'm glad this "war" is ending. Hopefully by next year all studios will support blu-ray and I can finally get a new player without wondering if it will become obsolete.

Things will start to slow drastically for HD DVD as news of this spreads, as it will turn off potential buyers, cause HD DVD owners to go format neutral, and cause dual format owners to curb their HD DVD buying habits. This will cause sales to slwow drastically, decreasing retail space, which already heavily favors Blu.
Things won't really end until after May, when Warner stops releasing on HD DVD, removing over 1/3rd of HD DVD's catalog, including major titles like 300, Batman Begins, and other top sellers on HD DVD.
