Forums - Gaming - Would you approve a Survival Horror FPS by Valve?

Anyway, on-topic...there's some fun HL2 mods out there, try http://www.hl2mods.co.uk/ for some, plenty on http://halflife2.filefront.com/ as well.

But yeah, the next Valve game coming out is indeed a survival horror game, so perhaps you'll get your request sooner than you thought.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Valve has nothing to do with L4D. It uses their engine, but that would be like saying Epic Games is making Too Human because it uses UE3

It's mainly Turtle Rock, but Valve is helping, check the facts.  It's an official game, not a mod.  They call it the next Counter-Strike...or more like Counter-Strike and Resident Evil's spawn.  They've done a few previews for the game, all at Valve's headquarters. This is not the same as Epic and its UE3 stuff.

Turtle Rock has worked with Valve on a few other games, mainly AI stuff, like the CS Bot in CS: Source, a pretty smart bot...and Left 4 Dead is taking AI to the next level, and it will be sweet.

Where did I say that it was a mod?  It looks like an awesome game, and is my second-most-anticipated next to Brawl.  Just because it uses their engine doesn't mean they are making it is all I was trying to say.

But now that I read that, I realized you are right.

I missed the old version of Ravenholm shown early on in development. Trap Town, where you could really mess with the Combine soldiers. It would have been cool if that 'amazing AI' stayed too that could do stuff like react if you blocked a door.

I don't care who makes the game as long as its good.

I occasionally get lost inside buildings and can't find the exit. I need food badly. What Video Game Character Are You?

Well I figured since you thought Valve wasn't helping, it was just a mod.  But no, it's a full-on Valve game, it'll get the works.  I just get a little mad sometimes cause I'm so excited for this game.  I've got a bunch of friends that are ready to kill some zombies!

Oh and IllegalPaladin, HL2's AI never really got advertised that much.  A step up from previous games, but nothing that revolutionary.  CS's AI bots are pretty good, and all that procedural AI work in Left 4 Dead is what's gonna make or break the game...as anybody can make a map, and the AI zombie director should be able to spawn zombies intelligently, and your AI friends (if you don't have real ones) should be able to traverse the map perfectly, without bot paths.

I love survival horrors, and I'm a bloody wimp. Nothing better than getting the blood pumping.

I'm hoping this game brings on some "sh*t my pants" moments. Playing it with friends will make it all the scarier...as death is quite substantial in this game. 1 of your 4 teammates dies? Good luck fending off the zombies with one less gun hehe.

Seriously though, there's moments where literally 20 zombies will be dogpiling a single teammate...they like to single out teammates. Not to mention the 4 player super-zombies you get to deal with.

God I cannot wait for this game! I'm even going against my usual code and getting the PC version so I can actually play with my friends who don't have Live XD

And often there are more than 20 zombies at once--sometimes 50

@MrPickles,

Ben (and myself) have been waiting with baited breath over every scrap and detail available for this game. Thats why Ben was so sure =) He is also frustrated (like myself) that more people aren't foaming at the mouth (pun intended) to play this game.

To Each Man, Responsibility

I wouldn't get excited about any game that uses a number in place of a homonymous word. Left 4 Dead? All sounds a bit '90s gangsta for my liking.

Also, I wouldn't bet that Valve will be too heavily involved in development. I'm pretty sure they're just slapping their name on it for credibility.

Don't get me wrong, I'm hoping it will be great, but all the early screens look terrible and Turtle Rock don't exactly have the credentials to ensure quality.

Just don't get your hopes up is all I'm saying.
