Forums - Nintendo - Will the Wii be the DS (third party support-wise)?

@Yojimbo: My point exactly. Everyone talks about the DS's stellar third-party support, when in actuality, 3rd-party support on the DS was never that good at all.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Wii third party support already is better then the DS.

Unfortunately, DS third party support actually isn't that good.

I came in here to say just this. Here's the breakdown of DS games rated 80.0% or above on Gamerankings, by publisher:

Nintendo: 22 (Counting all of the versions of Nintendogs as one)

Konami: 4

Square-Enix: 2

Capcom: 2

Sega: 1

Activision: 1

D3: 1

THQ: 1

Atlus: 1

Now, compare that to the PSP...

SCEA: 11 (Counting MLB and MLB '06 as one)

Konami: 4

Sega: 4

Rockstar: 3

Capcom: 3

Activision: 3

EA: 3

Namco-Bandai: 2

Square-Enix: 2

Ubisoft: 1

Nippon Ichi: 1

Buena Vista: 1

Koei: 1

THQ: 1

D3: 1

Now, you tell me which one looks like it has the better third-party support. And people wonder why I'll be trading in my DS on a PSP Slim soon...

I dont understand on that list it seems PSP have more.

That's exactly what he's saying--that PSP has more TP games with an 80% or higher.  However (correct me if I'm wrong) I believe the DS has more that are 70 or higher?

Well, yeah, DS gets a lot of good 3rd party support, lots of great games. But then again, for every good game there's about 50 crappy pieces of junk coming out for it.

Also, games are far easier and faster to make for DS than for Wii, so while I do believe 3rd party support for Wii to increase dramatically as the year goes on, I don't think it'll ever be as abundant as with the DS. Still, should get better and better. :)

 2008 Predictions:

Wii: 44 Million
Xbox360: 25 Million
PS3: 22 Million

DS: 90 Million
PSP: 37 Million

True, but is the PS2 any different?

@Garcian: Also, I think what Soriku is really talking about, for better or for worse, is the quantity of TP support, not necessarily quality. PS2 has lots of TP support, but, like CB semi-said, there are 50 POCs for every gem.

But there simply aren't that many third-party "gems" for the DS in the first place, while there's a metric ton for the PS2.

And how long has the Ps2 been out compared to the DS?

I just checked Gamerankings DS have 39 games over 80% but the list could only show 200 games but PS3 had 200 games over 82.7%. We need to see total software sales for each system to figure this out.

Extra stuff: Wii have 11 games over 80% compared too 27 PS3.

Not really. :p I was just making a point.

Anyway, that's what you get when a console/handheld gets really popular and mainstream. DS is now the PS2 of the handhelds and I suppose Wii will be the new PS2 in the console department.
