Forums - Gaming - Pay to play, would you stay?

I can see people still paying for console services.

If that ever happened on PC, someone would simply make a new, free service, crappy at first, but then eventually made better with user support...that's how the internet works.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Steam is really close, but of course that is only if you are playing Steam supported games.  I wait now to see if some games are going to come out on Steam before I buy them.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

Steam is really close? To becoming a pay service? Hardly...if they whored out, they'd lose everybody.  Not only is Steam free to use, but the games you buy on them are always cheaper than retail, because there's no tax, and they often have bundle deals or straight-up instant savings.  If Valve hits hard times, they can do less package deals to cut costs I'd imagine.  They would never turn it into a pay service.

No no.  Close to that kind of functionality.  I guess I should have made that clear.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

I already don't pay $60 a year to hear spoiled 13 year olds call each-other childish names on Xbox Live. Why would I on PSN?

If it's one thing that I've learned from the Wii, it's that, "get a bunch of friends and a couch" multiplayer is much more fun than online multiplayer of any kind. And I can do that for free. :)

While that kind of multiplayer is a lot of fun, don't underestimate how much fun getting 4-5 of your friends together for a game of Forza or four player co-op in Halo.

Both kinds of multiplayer are fun in their own right.
