Gears proving that software can really push hardware this far into the console generation,

Indeed it is.

Before anyone makes an argument of it I know that a couple or so years ago a game like Gears would have moved well over twice as many x360s as sold this week but for console that old those figures are good.

If the x360 had sold over 50K more than the closest other then it would have been very good, but I suppose that was to much of an ask.

That's the x360 latest exclusive out of the way and the next big exclusive hitter (I think) is Uncharted 3 on PS3 so as you said let's see how that compares hardware wise  - although I think Gears is a bigger franchise so it may not be a fair fight but that doesn't really matter.

Sales are so unusual this week.

-No Halo Reach, Kinect Adventures, or even Black Ops (360) in the top 40, despite the spike in console sales this week.
-Black Ops selling better on PS3 then 360.
- Wii sales getting weaker and weaker, and overall weak sales on all consoles (They were all selling around 200k last year at this time).
-360 not outselling the PS3 in EMEAA despite the Gears spike.

So odd, I expect PS3 to take #2 next week.

The way I see it Gears sucked up all the air in the room on 360 and caused drops in the titles you mention due to sharing same demographics.  Meanwhile on PS3 there was nothing to dent the usual baseline demand for Black Ops.  EMEAA isn't that much of a surprise.  Most of the Gears/HW bump was UK and while the UK market for games is big it isn't so big it can overturn the rest of EMEAA PS3 sales.

PS3 probably will be back in #2 next week as you note.  Wii does look very weak compared to 360/PS3 this week.

As for Kinect the baseline has been low for that for a while so it only takes a few bigger titles launching to squeeze it out.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

GoWar3 as huge as it is now, it just had special edition Xbox bundle, special editions always fly off shelves in a matter of days, Uncharted3 however confirmed to be bundled with regular 320Gb PS3

3ds aint fuckin' around.

Dark Souls 360 not break top 40?

Dark Souls has only been released in Japan and it's a PS3 exclusive there.

there's only 1m LT difference between uncharted and gears and the original gears beat uncharted 1 but uncharted 2 beat gears 2 so it's up to which game is better but gears should get around 7.5m maybe 8 LT depending on how long the support for the 360 is while uncharted 3 will get around 6-7m LT

interesting that gears 3 has no such big impact on 360 hardware sales hmm

Given these oddities I think it means a large % of the 360 spike is re-buys of 360: Gears Ltd Ed box and some people with old white boxes upgrading to 360s. If it was a lot of 1st time 360 buyers you'd expect a lift in sales for quite a few games in the back catalogue. I wonder how Gears 1 and 2 sold this week. If I was a 1st time 360 buyer this week I'd be buying all 3 Gears games. GEARS of WAR MARATHON!!
