Forums - Gaming - Japanese Gamers going portable: Why are Tales Fans so Resistant to this trend?

This weeks Media Create results really did make me proud that there is a group of people that like home console HD gaming in Japan.  The Tales fans seem to be resistant to this trend of everything going portable.  Heck, they even rejected an SD solution when Tales of Graces was released for the Wii.  I know the 360 is an HD console and Vesperia didn't do too well on that, but that's the 360 in Japan.

So my question, why are Tales fans resistant to this trend compared to other gamers?  Tales of the Abyss on 3DS launch also supports this fact.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Well we have to remember Mothership Tales games are always consoles, Spinoffs or side stories never sell as much as mainline titles and outside ports Tales has never had a Mothership be made for a handheld so we cant accurately come to OP conclusion.

Nah, we've had two Mothership Titles on the DS, Tales of Innocence and Tales of Hearts. Tales of the Tempest was considered a Mothership title until Innocence was announced and Tempest was demoted to Escort. Personally, I think they reject them more due to the fact that they're not on Sony systems. Tales of fans, in Japan at least, seem to lean more on Sony systems than anything else.

For me it's a myth that Home console are dying in Japan. It's just that big devs in Japan are reluctant to release a game that the Japanese wants especially on the PS3. How many JRPG has been release on the PS3 if you compared it to the PS2, PSP or the DS. The cost is not an excuse because Gust, NIS and the small devs is making money on the system. JRPG doesn't need Wow! graphics but more of Wow! art style look at Ni No kuni.

If you put a game and on the system that people wants they will buy it. ToX is a prime example of this. I am glad Namco is releasing the games that the Japanese and I want and learning from their past mistakes. Right now hoping they localize ToX, One Piece: Pirate and the Gundam game.

i wouldn't know, why do you think it is

having a quick search there are 3 games on the PS3 is that right, have any of them been released in the west or is it all import

I think this hits the nail on the head.  Many devs have been virtually ignoring a sector of the market that wants to play jRPGs on the PS3 specifically.

^^Good stuff

I don't care where Namco puts their Tales games I just want them to US or Europe..

Former something....

Honestly, for games like the Tales series, it's better suited for a console. Most JRPGs are. (Exceptions - Pokemon and MH, but the reasons for that are obvious)
