Forums - Sales - Microsoft Slashes Xbox 360 Prices in Australia

Australian gamers will have a reason to celebrate this season as Microsoft announced that it has slashed the price on its Xbox 360 and Kinect bundles by AU$50 in time for Christmas.

Microsoft
Following Sony's decision to drastically cut the price of its flagship PlayStation 3 console, Microsoft's vice president of interactive entertainment Chris Lewis has confirmed that the company will not follow suit, promising consumers that the Xbox 360's RRP will remain the same.

Following recent price cuts from its rivals Nintendo and Sony on their respective consoles, Microsoft has also reduced the price of its 4Gb Xbox 360 with Kinect bundle and its standalone Xbox 360 console. The 4Gb with Kinect bundle will now cost $399 while the 250Gb with Kinect bundle will now sell for $499 starting September 15.

Microsoft will also release a 4Gb Xbox 360 model for $249 that comes with a standard-definition composite cable, a wireless controller, built-in Wi-Fi and a one-month subscription to Xbox Live Gold Membership. Gamers who want their games in high-definition will have to buy their own HDMI cable.

"With families gearing up for school holidays they will be looking for ways to keep the kids entertained, and Kinect offers something that parents and their kids can participate in together," Microsoft Australia retail lead Andy Coughlin said. "We are pleased to now offer Xbox 360 and Kinect bundles at new lower prices, meaning Kinect and Xbox have never been more affordable."

Nice, effectively a $150 cut on the baseline price (as they didn't stock 4GB consoles in AU/NZ I think)

oh come on MS,make a worldwide price cut

WTF? The 250gb is $500 and that's just dropped? Holy fuck I feel bad for gamers in Australia.

Its $300 in Canada, and $200 for the shitty 4gb one.

So it looks like they are selectively cutting the price of the 360.

They need to cut the price worldwide and start selling it in Japan for $50. Noy sure what they are waiting for. I think they want to get through all those Gears 3, MW3, Foza 4 bundles first before they do a regional price cut. Sure they are outselling the PS3 in the U.S. just fine, but they need to get more love from Europe and Japan and only a large price cut is going to get that.
