Forums - Gaming - EDGE scores Dead Island a .....

IMO it's unforgivable to sell a game full of bugs. Totally unforgivable. The final product should be playable when I buy it, there's no justification for that. And if that's not the case points should be subtracted.

It's as if you buy a movie where the editing is wrong and it doesn't make sense, and you still give it an 8 because they may fix it later.

They mostly punished it for bugs. I hate when reviewers do that. A patch will fix most of the problems they listed.

They should fix bugs BEFORE releasing it, not after. Patching is leading to devs becoming lazy with quality control.

I agree, a lot of people don't have their consoles hooked up to the net, so this will be the final version of the game for them, and if it's buggy as hell, no patch is going to fix that for them.

Exactly. I know everyone on these forums has an Internet connection, but what happens with those that don't? They get screwed big time.

They can only review what is in front of them, not what may be in front of them somewhere further down the line.

That's true but, as Mr Khan has said, the same can be said about Fallout 3 or Oblivion, yet they gave them a score of 7 and 8.

Please excuse my bad English.

eh, seems like they couldn't get over the bugs. I admit the bugs do sound pretty severe but there's also a day one patch meaning that most people aren't going to see those bugs.

While I can understand being upset about the bugs, basing almost the entire review on them (especially when they already have a list in hand of what's getting fixed for day one) seems a little excessive. The people calling this Dev Island and a beta are just over reacting a bit. The people I know that have played it like it despite the problems and I hyped to play it tonight.

I just hope some of the bugs are funny like in red dead: redemption. Its easy to forgive problems when they make you laugh. It has been described as like fallout so as that game can be great with bugs I'm sure this one will be as well.

Sometimes it isn't really an option and it isn't a lot to ask for people nowadays to have an internet connection.  I know, I know, not everyone has one, but when the vast majority of your audience does, you cater to them.  It's a lot to ask to have an always on connection, not a lot to ask for a few meg patch.

If it's the difference between delaying a month and wasting A LOT of advertising money and pushing an already taxed team even harder or issuing a day one patch to a largely internet connectioned audience, I would do the patch.

And while Dead Island does sound like a buggier game than most, it's not like games were perfect before patches.  I guarantee you that you plan play through most any NES, SNES, PS1, PS2 games and find anything from small bugs to game breaking bugs.  It has nothing to do with becoming lazier with QA.  Also, remember that games today are infintely more complex than they were even 10 years ago.
