Forums - Sony - Why Sony don't try to bring RTS genre on the PS3.

Yes i agree games like C&C and Starcraft are not sellers at all on console... but still its a pretty important genre and maybe its not been transformed on the console like the way it should be.... But sony has never tried it...

i mean they have highest developers, so they don't have one game developing on this genre although may not be a good idea to waste your resource on such a project but as far as i know they never tried to approach the existing RTS game developer to do a port, atleast they can do that... while MS is actively trying to bring them onboard.. first C&C and now rumours of Starcraft..

I surely will like to try Total Annihilation or Starcraft on PS3...

Pikmin and Battalion Wars both work very well as real time strategy games on a console ... The problem isn't with creating real time strategy games that work on a console, the problem is converting a PC RTS into a console game.

Well, you can plug any usb-keyboard and usb-mouse into the ps3, so, why not ?
Anyway, I like RTS-games too, and certainly would buy it ( if it's a good one )

I can't wait for the next pikimin and the next Civilization (I know not RTS, but turn based) game on the Wii. With a wiimote, the Wii is a far better solution for RTS on a console.

With either the 360 or PS3, you need a usb keyboard or mouse for a pc rts game. With the Wii, you should be able to make it work pretty well with just the wiimote for mouse like use and the nunchuk for more button and quicker actions.

rts on the wii should work as well as on the pc...

but id never want to play a rts on the 360 or ps3 purely because of the controllers limitations in the genre

Over 300,000 people who bought Command & Conquer for 360 would disagree that it is a bad console genre.

Expect this genre to gain prominence on consoles. Sony would be wise to step into the game.

The wiimote may be better than analogue sticks for RTS, but as good as a mouse? It's not even close.

On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised to see Multiwinia on the wii, and that would seriously rock.

360 and PS3 should probably leave well alone.

Civilization (like Advance Wars) can work on any console, but I am really looking forward to the next Pikmin as well ...

I just want to make one further comment on Battalion Wars though. Battalion Wars is an argument for keeping development costs low, in my opinion it is one of the more enjoyable gameplay experiences on a console but will never be that popular because it focuses far more on unit control and strategy than on shooting which limits its appeal with "Hard-Core" gamers ...

I wonder how a "keyboard and mouse required" PS3 game would go over. I think not too well, but who knows? It's not like they're expensive these days. (Any old USB KB/M will work on the PS3, right?)
