I expect Nintendo to release a new DS sometime in mid- to late-2009. This DS will contain 2GB flash memory, and it will come with a VC system for downloading Game Gear, GameBoy, GBA, NeoGeo Pocket, Turboexpress, and Wonderswan titles.

It will not have a GBA slot (as GBA titles will be able to be downloaded), but it will have a pack-in attachment for GBA carts (for those that still want to be able to use that ability).

As a result of no GBA slot, the system will be much thinner. The DS slot will be on the bottom, rather than the top, allowing for a different hinge.

The DS2 will release two and a half years later, six months after the Wii2's release, with full backwards compatibility, two analog nubs (nothing like the ones seen on PSPs; it's not the same idea), and power that rivals the original Wii.

Count on it. 

I'm still waiting for a mainstream finger/thumb stylus to come along for this first DS. >:(

Guys please...I know it looks nice, but you're not thinking like ninty do. You are thinking like sony did when they made PSP.
I know that for DS2 we will have a graphic an design upgrade, but nintendo will look for an inovation. I know it's very hard to think in one, but ninty has show us that they still have some magic ;)

Wouldn't that be quite uncomfortable? The buttons seems quite close to the edge.

Looks cool, but there is no way in hell we'll see a new handheld from Nintendo before 2010 at the very, VERY earliest. 2008-2009?? Gtfo!

This months Game TM magazine (in the UK) speculate that a new DS might be launched this year with more internal memory and bigger screens (page 97 for those who have it/get it). I think some kind of Virtual Console with downloadable GBA etc games is a definate in the next DS.

What if Nintendo tries to do a handheld with motion sensing controls? It could be awesome but really sucky at the same time.
