Forums - General - Stop hurting/killing children with prescription drugs

Are you afraid that too many kids are prescribed drugs?

Yes 18 75.00%

No 6 25.00%

Total:24

I just wanted to address this issue because I believe it has become a great issue/tragedy in the past few decades.  Apparently, up till about 1990s most of the youth were seen to be as normal kids then somehow the pharmaceutical industry with some pawn doctors convinced most of the general public that our kids were in fact sick.  They had a chemical imbalance and the only way to treat it was through prescription medication such as adderall, ritalin, prozac, etc...  With little to zero sound science and an every expanding definition of disorders such as ADHD the rate of kids now on prescription drugs has grown astronomically.  The pharmaceutical industry can't even support itself and many case studies that they tried to prove the drugs were harmless turned out horrible wrong thus destroying the negative case studies.  University studies couldn't even come up with any benefits for kids that were diagnosed with ADHD to improving their condition through these prescription drugs.

I am glad I grew up before this over medication of the youth.  The sad thing is that the "medical" industry now has definitions for disorders that almost any kids can be labeled as "imbalanced" (ignoring the fact that the actual imbalance comes after they start taking the prescription drugs).  Who didn't twitch in their seats at school when they were young?  Who wasn't nervous before certain tests at school?  This has to stop and I would like for everyone that knows someone that is prescribing their kids to tell them to take a step back and actually do some research.  Just because a teacher says the kids shows signs of ADHD shouldn't mean you should go out and start drugging the kid immediately.  I believe these prescription drugs are as bad or worse than almost any illegal drug.  Join the fight and end the tyranny of the drug companies against the children.

While there are a few cases that perhaps a child can benefit from closely monitored prescription a vast majority of kids are diagnosed and prescribed improperly.

I believe the pharmaceutical industry, FDA, psychiatrists, doctors that are in the hands of the pharmaceutical industry deserve the most blame for the current situation in USA.  It is a shame what money can do to so called professionals that are supposed to look out for the public health (talking about FDA and doctors here).  The psychiatric field which lacks almost any science doesn't even deserve to be able to prescribe these types of drugs.  They don't know what the hell they are talking about or what they are prescribing.  Sure there are probably some decent psychiatrists out there but for the most part that entire segment is bullshit and lacks any scientific data to support any of their "research", "claims", or whatever they try to spew out of their mouth.

I will spread the word as much as I can.  I will inform people that unknowingly poison their kids.  I will show them the actual scientific data.  I will show them that people at the FDA are just pawns of the pharmaceutical industry.

it seems this may be a problem.

Agreed.

Personally I've hardly taken any medication in my life. I'm strongly against children being given meds, except in special cases of course.

Them bastards just want your money. Them fools just want a quick fix solution.

Speaking from personal experience...

They really did a number to my friend with adderal(for ADHD) when he was young.. He was very hyper and couldn't pay attention in school. The adderal made him crazy and full of rage. Then with ritalin. Made him crazy with zombie personality. They took him off medication, and by the time he was 13 or so he no longer exibited signs of ADHD... Though he still gets SSI for it but they reevaluate your case when you turn 18,

I suggested he act crazy to the psychologists or he might loose his sweet, sweet, undeserved government money.

Just reminds me of the late 1800s/early 1900s where people would go around selling cure-alls.  Just take this and you will feel great!  Except that in the end the person is either addicted or has very adverse side effects.

So basically the parents are just looking for a quick fix without really dwelling into any of the consequences.  Too bad most people haven't learned that almost all "quick fixes" never work.

Don't know if any of you remember how much they MESSED UP MY BRAIN(or if you even know who I am) with a grand cocktail of anti-psychotics, anti-schizophrenia pills, anti-anxiety pills, anti depressants, mood stabilizers...

But I am okay now, medicine free~ Non-schizophrenic♣ Not depressed☻ Not psychotic(-won't murder you) ♥

Sadly, there are numerous stories just like yours.  I am glad you and your friend were able to get off those drugs.   Unfortunately, a lot of people don't and either end up hurting themselves or others.  I am very happy to see that you are back to normal again after almost being ruined by those drugs.

Strongly agree with this and the general case which you mention after that.

Overperscription is a problem in American medicine altogether. We have tests for things that we don't need tested for, surgeries for stuff that could be fixed by a little rest or healthy eating. This is largely the reason we have such huge medical costs per capita
