Forums - Sony - Sony has 'no desire' to release a new home console

I believe the NextBox and PS4 will come out in 2014. If by chance the Nextbox comes out in 2013, I don't see Sony rushing to get the PS4 out sooner. No need to rush it, we have all seen what that leads too

Rushing it got Microsoft the RRoD, but also that critical momentum that has kept them in 2nd place. I really don't think Microsoft would have held the 360 back if they knew it needed six more months to have a rock-solid design.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I highly doubt that Sony or MS releasing  ther systems in 2013 means that they are rushing it. They will probably get it out in 2013 to avoid letting the Wii U grab too much marketshare. If the Nextbox comes out before the PS4, then Sony is in a bad situation, and will probably advance the PS4 R&D to launch soon after, but 2014 sounds like a stretch.

I would say the majority of that momentum is there because Sony laucnhed a console at the $500/$600 price point.  Which is probably the main reason it lagged in sales early on.  Cause had the console launched at a similar price point to the 360,  that momentum wouldnt have been there.  Which would have made the RROD fiasco even more detrimental to the 360 as people would have had a reasonably priced option to switch to.

What's the point of commenting it ? Corporations never confirm price drops/new models etc in advance as it would hurt current sales.
It's like asking politicians if they will increase taxes :D

I dont think that Sony or MS are concerned with the Wii U, nor do I think they should be.  I see the Wii U having to compete with the PS3 and 360,  not MS and Sony's next consoles, especially if the rumors about graphical capabilities are true.

And even if the Nextbox beats the PS4 out to the market, again I dont see Sony having a huge problem,  unless they price themselves out of the market like they did with the PS3.  If they come in at the same price points as the Nextbox,  they wont have any issues.

So the Wii is competing against the PS2, Xbox, and GCN.  I see why both companies said they were never competing against Nintendo now...  It makes it easier when you deem your competition to be a generation behind every cycle.  I suppose Nintendo will never catch up to the all mighty Sony and Microsoft.

Who said anything about the Wii competing with last generation consoles?  I was only refering to the Wii U as being seen as just another console in this current generation.

I said it because you just stated that the Wii U is just apart of the current gen.  Is the Wii U an add-on like the 64DD, Sega CD or 32x? No  Going by that then it means the Wii U is next generation.  I played the Wii being last gen card because I know many Sony and Microsoft fans love to downplay the Wii power just like you are downplaying the Wii U before any specs are even released.  I just assumed that since you state the Wii U is just apart of the current gen then that must mean you probably think the Wii was last gen.  You can think what you want but the fact is the next systems from Sony and Microsoft will be competing against the Wii U.

I knew it was going this way with you involved.

And you can think what you want to,  but when the next gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft finally release, the developers will forget about the Wii U and it will get the same support the Wii is getting right now. Which will leave the Wii U with competing against no one.   I believe Nintendo is releasing the Wii U to try and re capture the Hardcore by upping the graphics to meet what available on the PS3 and 360,  but that wont be enough of a jump to compete with what the Sony's and MS's next console will do.

The Wii U will only be competing against the Nextbox or PS4,  if the consumers see them as competing products.  Which I am betting wont happen.

Okay ,we have two very different views and there isn't anything wrong with that.  We have to wait a couple of years to see who will be right.  I suppose we can agree to disagree and that is about where this argument will end because only time will tell.
