I hope so....Call of Duty is just holding the Video Game Industry back with its yearly rehashes!!

Exactly this.

Can you actually come up with a sound argument as to how it's holding the industry back? Actually it goes someway to propping it up ..

1) Buy small/indie developers (or even companies as large as Blizzard)

2) Demand that they change their games/marketing/pricing

3) Industry is worse off for their existance

I can only stomach so much hypocrisy. Electronic Arts is using a old strategy that has worked before for many other companies. You know companies like Sony, Sega, and Microsoft. They all pulled this exact same gag usually when it was their turn at chasing the front runner. You want to know something else it works like a charm. Chances are you have already bought into this sales pitch before. Electronic Arts is doing something that people like to buy into, and something that works really well.

The same holds true for Activision they are running a gag too. They are playing the innocent victim that is being the target of a unwarranted attack. It is called rallying the troops behind your banner. Which is basically the same as fighting a holding action. I am a firm believer in actions speaking louder then words. When they had that huge sales advantage. They should have pumped up each additional game to stay way out of reach. They didn't so who is the victim here really.

I like what Electronic Arts is doing here. I like it for the simple reason that it causes the parties to go into leapfrog mode. It makes them put greater emphasis on not just improving, but improving enough to stay or get ahead. It always results in greater leaps in design. Not only just in quality, but in total volume. Which is the best part of all. I think I want to reward Electronic Arts for this.

Call of Duty not Activision, and you're all clutching at straws, you all hate COD for 'ruining the industry' but you don't have a real reason

It sounds like these EA guys are reading too many fanboy messages and posts off the internet with their "COD to guitar hero and tony hawk" analogies. This is very immature for a game company to do. I hope the best for EA and Battlefield 3. It looks like it will be a great game, but I think their whole approach to this is wrong.
Just for the fact that Battlefield 3 will give a slight challange to COD series is good for us gamers! Competition is good, because it will force both companies to be more innovative with future releases in those series. So, Im honestly not worried that the "COD franchise will die", because I really think that is a long way off still if it does. If anything it will make COD games better with new experiences.

Yearly releases with little improvement from it's predecesesors is rather simply put, bad.

what if there is not much to improve upon??

What are you insisting?

im just saying what could be improved in COD?? Without turning into something else, because IMHO, as it is right now its probably gonna be good as its gonna get. The graphics cant be improved that much, until the next batch of consoles come out. and the online will never be perfect either, but its pretty close

Uhhh what? The graphics for one can be improved upon IMMENSLY. Furthermore, they can easily improve game mechanics and what not, maybe look at their competitors or simply use more game modes.

Will the game still run at 60FPS with increased graphics? Game mechanics, how so. More game modes, they have been doing that, MW3 is gonna have a new mode. Multiplayer probably has more game modes than any other FPS ive played this gen

and when it finally dies Im gonna poke it with a stick.....

One could only hope

CoD is a huge rip-off! I read the box, it doesn't actually contain any cod! You could find more crab in crab surimi than cod in CoD! EA is right, this filthy fraud must come to an end!

Sorry, I only skim read.

I do have a reason to dislike CoD, and I personally would be happier if it had never existed (or have never become popular). I don't enjoy squad based single player games - I think it takes the gameplay away from shooting and into 'running forward, taking cover and watch as your invincible squad mates follow you'. I also can't stand regenerating health, either in single player or in multiplayer. Because of CoD (and Halo), the entire shooter genre is copying these things. This makes me enjoy shooters much less.

Would I say CoD 'ruined the industry'? No, the industry is doing fine. But it ruined a significant part of it for me.
