"Americans" don't care about the bus. Especially when its the same bus type/company that Bush and Clinton used.

Its the damn republican party who has been going overboard on its attempt to destroy Obama in any possible way... even if it meant the collapse of the government itself.

Wow.  I cannot say I am shocked, but I think that even knowing the state of today's media I am disappointed.

If were true.

I coulda swore Obama ordered new Buses... because in fact the secret service just bought busses for each campaign and he bought some new ones that were all retrofitted and such

I remember people talking about it because he did it back when people were pissed about wasteful spending while there was a big arguement about how expensive they were.

Yep, new busses... which don't look anything like Bush/Clinton or really anyones bus.

I doubt the president spends his time looking through bus cataloges though.  I mean if you want a funny government story involving sercret service government money....

I'd go with the fact that Harry Reid's bodyguards pay rent.... to Harry Reid.

When did I say they were not new buses?

Point is, previously Clinton and and Bush rented from the same manufacturer (which removes the entire Canada arguement) and the Secret Service completely retrofitted the busses with higher security stuff and other items. Then when the president was done, they removed the stuff and returned the buses.

This time Obama simply bought them so they don't need to remove all the stuff later. Overall cost probably was close to the same.

In the long run, it doesn't really matter and it probably wasn't even his choice. Just something someone decided to do as a potential cost saving measure over the long run as you don't have to remove all the security and other enhancements. They can simply reuse the same buses in the future.

EDIT: Also, your source confirms what I said.

"The vehicle was commissioned by the Secret Service, which has always hired buses for election campaigns and retrofitted them to provide suitable protection for presidents and rival party nominees."

"Each of the new buses will be available to Mr. Obama and the eventual Republican presidential nominee if required through the duration of the 2012 election season."

Yep same bus company.

In fact before you notice they had their logos all over it because it was a rental and used ONCE. Now they will remain all black with no logos as they are intended to be used accross multiple election cycles and other needs.

Americans like stuff made in America. Especially when it's our tax money that pays for it. It has nothing to do with politics or the quality of the stuff. Americans hate taxes, but even more so we hate seeing our money used for anything that isn't 100% necessary and doesn't 100% benefit the USA. We all would prefer to not pay taxes at all, but since we can't get out of it we look at government spending as wasteful.

when i was watching CNN the other day they said that the difference in these buses and previously used buses is that this bus was purchased and that all the others were only rented then fitted with all the equipment and armor then afterwards everything was taken out and returned.

You're absolutely right.

However, in the long run which is cheaper? The probably high cost of rental and fees added with retrofitting, repainting, decals,.... followed by removal of retrofitting, painting, decals.. etc every 4 years.

OR

Buying two buses at a probable discount, retrofitting ONCE, painting ONCE. NO removal of anything. NO repainting again. NO adding and removal of decals. AND using it for 2 or 3 election cycles.

I think in the long run it was a far smarter decision by the secret service. Plus, outside of the election years, they can be used by the SS for many other things vs acquiring other forms of transport.

All this comes down to is idiotic banter and hate from the right. Same mentality that wanted to crush the government a week ago. Same mentality that fought for years over a stupid birth certificate. Bunch of idiots.

I think that more than anything, the problem is that he's going on day 935 of his presidency to promote a jobs bill or jobs plan.

Rather than, you know, try to create jobs on Day-1. Of course, I'd argue that he did try a jobs bill near Day-1. It failed, and this attempt is nothing more than smoke and mirrors for one of the worst presidencies in recent American history.

well 3 of the last 3 presidents reached across the aisle to get legislation passed, and only 2 was able to be successful in doing so.

i say it all the time. the President has no more power then the Congress and Senate will let him have, and if the otherside isn't willing to work with the President then nothing gets done.

So who is that 3rd president that couldn't get legislation passed? I am pretty sure Clinton and Obama have been able to get tons of major legislation passed in their terms. The only one that had issues was George W. Bush when it came to reforming Social Security in 2004, as well as ANWAR and a few other areas, despite having majorities in all three legislative areas (congress, senate, president).

i was talking about Obama and the republicans hins reaching across the aisle. come on don't tell me you havn't seen it?

You said it was the same type of bus too... which it's not even close.

Ah, my apologies. I read your post wrong.

Honestly, the issue is that I can't find any legislation that Obama has ever pushed that was bi-partisan. Clinton had a ton, as well as Bush, but I cannot think of a single thing Obama has tried to pass that was either bi-partisan, or presented as such.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

yep thats my other point.

its Rumored and mostly siad in the ews but republicans block a lot of Obamas agendas with so called legislative tactic's, and i i'll say its true cause it made Dem's look weak and i beleive thats how Republicans got the congress back.
