Forums - Politics - Man, why are American's so upset about Obama's Bus?

So today it was reported that the armoured bus Obama is traveling in came from Canada. The American press had a field day with reporters saying things like "Canucklehead Obama bus-ted!" - New York Post Busted for what? Other tabloids went further like a CNN radio host saying "Nothing says 'Let's tour America and talk about jobs!' than a big, black, hearsemobile of doom." Other pointed out Obama is talking about American jobs while traveling in a Canadian bus.

Honestly whats the big freaking deal, Our Prime Minister flies in American made planes during elections and we don't mind. Britain's Prime Minister gets driven around sometimes in American made vehicles and you don't see the British whining and complaining. Seriously Canada is the US's biggest trading partner and that bus had to meet high quality standards which obviously couldn't be met by an American company!

Seriously why are so many American's pissed that Obama honours free trade and buys products from Canada. Geez maybe Canadian's should stop buying American products because we are in a recession. Maybe the Prime Minister should stop flying in an American plane and american armoured cars.

These are the basics of free trade, why are American's only support free trade when it benefits them but the second Obama buys a Canadian bus all hell breaks loose!

Whats your thoughts, is this completely insaine or does CNN and the NewYork Post and other journalistic organisations have a point. And if they have a point why shouldn't Obama be driven in a Canadian made bus?

US mainstream media is messed up.

All day news channels need things to talk about and there are limited stories. I never ever heard this and doubt more than a negligent portion of the population even heard this or cared.

The biggest media company in the world is under FBI scrutiny for illegal activites, there is an election coming up, the economy is up shit creek sans paddle, there's drought in your farm belt - demonstrating that your entire agriculture industry is balanced atop a very unstable tower of cards, you are involved in 3 wars, and you think that there are limited news stories?

also, negligible =/= negligent

Apparently those stories are not big enough for this minor complaint to not make headlines.

Because it's hypocrisy to talk about increasing jobs in your own country and then buy something from other country using taxpayers money.

Sure a single bus isn't much in the grand picture but politicians are suppossed to be giving example to people.

^^^^ this just reminds me the last presidential season when it became unpatriotic for politicians to not have American flag pins on suits. Wasted arguing over minor details.

Umm its hypocracy to go around talking free trade with other countries and then only buy American made products. Nobody in Britain or Canada get upset when our politicians drive around in American made vehicles while talking Canadian/British Jobs, why because we respect free trade and honour our agreements.

It sets a good example to the American people to only buy American, but what message does that send to your trading partners and their citizens?

Canada is the US's largest trading partner buying a bus from your largest trading partner shouldn't be seen as bad by any American's. Without Canada's trade the US would be screwed. Without Mexico without all the other free trade countries the US would be screwed.

Obama is doing the right thing by buying some vehicles and stuff from Canada. It sends a clear message to Canadian's and the international community that the US respects and honours its free trade agreements.

Plus trade with Canada increases jobs in America just as much as in Canada. So buying a bus shouldn't be seen as a negative under any light. Its really stupid that this is making headlines all over, the press aren't even just pointing it out they are starting to throw insults.

I went to MSNBC.com, foxnews.com and cnn.com. The big three news channels in America only one had this in the news. I bet most people can guess which news source was talking about this and what it says about the motivations of the people talking about it.

It wouldn't send any message to trade partners because it wouldn't make any headliness if he was driving around with american car.
