main memory - 512...
512 RAM and 128 VRAM... for a portable device with an optimised os those are beast specs
Im not really a tech guy, how does this compare to PSP or even PS3?
the psp had way less RAM ( maybe 64 ) so already thats a major difference and in terms of the ps3 the ps3 has a total of 512 RAM divided into 2 so 256 + 256... so already you can see the vita outclasses the ps3 in terms of RAM and what makes that even more significant is that its a handheld and therefore will use less resources than a full blown console because of things being scaled down for its size
The original PSP has only 32MB of ram so it's a pretty huge increase precentage wise. 2000 model and up have 64MB and an option to cache data in that extra ram to significantly improve load times. With a flash based game medium instead of optical disc, load times shouldn't be a problem at all with the vita though.
yeah i knew it was some way around 64 and 32 for the psp, and now its finalised that the vita will be so much more powerful this should allow developers to create amazing experiences without having to bother about hardware limitations ( in most cases at least )

respodning and reading the awsumeness at the sametime. PSP had 32 Ram.
and the rest is awsume. thank you both cause i was going to ask the same question(no need reply)
The Skype app is the one that caught my eye. I already said I wanted a Skype app, 3D or no 3D in my thread about 'apps you would like to see on the 3DS'. The social network apps are a plus but really, any good phone already satisfies in that department. I won't be getting the vita at launch, but I hope before I buy it, Sony announces a Playstation Vita Phone so I don't have 2 carry this and a smartphone.
Here's 3DS specs fro comparison:

Upper Screen Wide-screen LCD display, enabling 3D view without the need for special glasses. Capable of displaying approximately 16.77 million colors. 3.53 inches display (3.02 inches wide, 1.81 inches high) with 800 x 240 pixel resolution. 400 pixels are allocated to each eye to enable 3D viewing.
Lower Screen LCD with a touch screen capable of displaying 16.77 million colors. 3.02 inches (2.42 inches wide, 1.81 inches high) with 320 x 240 pixel resolution.
Cameras One inner camera and two outer cameras. Resolutions are 640 x 480 for each camera. Lens are single focus and uses the CMOS capture element. The active pixel count is approximately 300,000 pixels.
Wireless Communication 2.4 GHz. Enabling local wireless communication among multiple Nintendo 3DS systems for game play and StreetPass.
