If looking from an absolute 100% melodic death metal standpoint, inflames sucks I guess. But some stuff they did after Clayman was quite interesting and I liked a lot of it. Last few releases they are almost commercial radio sounding though. Not really down with that...

COB is jsut bland these days. After are you dead yet their songs stopped standing out..

I agree with your previous post defining metal as diverse, but I gotta say I really dig InFlames; particularly Clayman, Reroute and Come Clarity.  Truth is, I don't personally consider them Death Metal (melodic or otherwise) at all.  I know people do label them that way though, which is odd to me.  I define Death Metal as something like Cannibal Corpse, which I personally think is terrible music (just my opinion).

Clayman will be my all time favorite but reroute and soundtrack are good as well. Come clarity I liked at first but it was quickly forgotten in my rotation. Seems the more they make music, the more watered down they make it...I blame the guitar players. They need some amazing riffs again. Soilwork did some very impressive guitar work on their latest album, after slacking for a couple of releases...

Only on Sworn to a Great Divide, I hated it.

Stabbing the Drama is INFECTIOUS. Some songs, like Distance and Distortion Sleep are so good I listened to them for a whole week on loop.

Oh yeah, I liked Stabbing too. I forgot that came betwen Sworn and Figure 5 which I also thought was lackluster.

DIO: God of metal

Symphony X: American power metal, also has the best vocalist ever made ( ok maybe in competition with Hansi of Blind Guardian)

In my book also Judas Priest have the god status;

Another great power vocalist in his league is Jorn Lande (but I don't know what happened to him after Masterplan)

Agree pretty much with the rest.

My selection of metal music or RaptorGTA's guide to his musical taste:

DIO: God of metal

Iron Maiden, Megedeth, Manowar, Judas Priest, Metaliica(old): Kings of metal

Sonata Arctica: Metal's version of Emo music. Only darker and not ending well for the girl

COB: Like most of you have said, old stuff was just amazing..new stuff..meh (i feel the same way with In flames)

Rage: 80's to late 90's: ok... 2000 to current: Melodic trash power metal? I dont know what you call it buts its awesome.

Elvenking: Folk power metal with some screaming.

Symphony X: American power metal, also has the best vocalist ever made ( ok maybe in competition with Hansi of Blind Guardian)

Blind Guardian: German power metal..wanted to write the music for the Lord of the Rings lol

Ayreon: progressive folk death metal musical act? Vocalist from other bands join to play as characters in concept albums.

Dream Theater: Progressive metal? Seen them a few times,,recently with Iron Maiden. Personally felt they put on a better show then iron maiden.

Ensiferum: Viking metal. Need a i say more? lol

Edguy: Self proclaim greatest metal band in the world.

Ok, I wasted enough time. Agree or dissagree with my little list?

Some great bands there, IMO.

Dream Theater is my personal favorite band of all time, despite the fact that I don't like the singer much.  It sucks that Portnoy (the drummer) left the band, but I'm raving to hear their new album due out next month.  John Petrucci is truly my favorite guitarist ever, and I like a lot of guitar players.

What's your favourite album, may I ask?

I like Megadeth, but I will freely admit Dave's voice gets on my nerves sometimes. He can give a good vocal, but he can also give some awful ones imo.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

That's hard to say; kinda like picking one of your children over the other.

I guess it'd have to be between Images and Awake.  There's so many great songs on so many of their albums.  Octavarium is definitely my least favorite, though.

What's your favorite?

I fully agree.

The thing with Bruce Dickinson from Maiden that turns off many people is that he kind of sticks out like a sore thumb sometimes whereas Dave Mustaine or Maiden's original singer, Paul Dianno, tend to flow better with the music at times, even if they're not technically as good vocally.

My personal favorite rock/metal singers would have to be Geoff Tate of Queensryche (incredible range, smooth voice) and Sebastian Bach of Skid Row.  And I'll always like and respect Rob Halford, too.

Images, so many great songs excpecially Pull Me Under, Take The Time, Under A Glass Moon. Second to it Awake or Metropolis. Metropolis is the best refined album but still I find a bit overblown at times, Awake on the other end is their most original album imo, also it's the one with the most inspired Petrucci but still I think it should have been a little shorter,  the last part of the album (liftin shadows and scarred) is not as good as the rest. Awesome band, but I had problems listening to their more recent albums, mostly I don't like very much how Ruddess plays (in general), and Petrucci I feel lately is trying too much to be metal so his arrangements are not as good as before, however I'm still waiting for the next album too.

So who uses Last.fm?
