Forums - Gaming - iD Software thinks forcing always-on DRM a good idea

I'll enjoy see Rage bombing now. They deserve it.

Words can't express how disappointed I am.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

regardless of whether we like it or not this is where gaming is headed... to increasingly annoying measures for security... the funny thing is that this process is being accelerated more and more by the reactions from devs to people who hack and pirate games and yet there are gamers who defend these hackers even though their actions are making things worse for gamers as a whole

I guess I'll just wait for the cracks of these two games. Oh well.It only took, what, a month to crack the Ubi DRM?

Taking that mentality is like if you blame the Communists for the military coup de'tat in Brazil in '64. Overreaction that hurts everyone is a poor response to a problem limited in scope

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

lol what a bizarre analogy... why would you think i'd know of that coup? i never studied brazilian history

but regardless i don't like the idea of these measures being put into place either but i can understand where the devs are coming from when they entertain these ideas... i'd be pissed too if people were stealing stuff that i worked on for months or years scott free

Yes, and then you react to that rage by pissing on all consumers. It's not smart.

So they are trying to prop it up by the game auto updating.... Give me a fucking break. How hard is it to click on the update button that pops up when you try to play the game online or going to the companies site to download the update? These points are completely dumb and offer little to zero benefit to the actual consumers. This won't stop piracy and will only harm the companies reputation to their true fans.

You should include a poll and I guarantee that at least 90% of the people will vote against always-on DRM.  Most of these people probably never pirated in their life.

I'd care more if they released anything worth playing since Q3 ;)

I was slightly interested by Rage, especially the late declaration about the focus on SP. Now, I absolutely don't care.
