Forums - Politics - Rioting in London ¬_¬

I'm all in for the sending of Army reinforcements to stop these riotings. Nothing justifies the senseless destruction of people's homes, livelihoods and common public property. It sickens me to no end when I see the images of the riots, I feel sorry for the people who live there.

I thought there was tight gun control in England, how did the criminal get a gun?

There is but doesn't mean it's impossible to get one and most of the time it's usually a converted weapon anyway.

What's the scale of the riots and damage? I see buildings burning in videos and pictures, but I don't really have a sense of how big the problem is.

It seems that the guy getting shot was just a catalyst, and now the riots are taking a separate life of their own.

I saw this posted on someone's wall on Facebook and it pretty much sums up my feelings...

Egypt riots because of terrible living conditions, mass un-employment, political repression etc.. Somalians rioting because soldiers shot and killed starving people trying to get food.. Greece riots because of a $20 bn cut in public spending and a huge rise in taxes etc...

Meanwhile in britain, people riot because a man shot a policeman, and was then shot himself. Seriously, what is wrong with this country.

Not that I agree with the situation as it is very sad but at least this isn't over a basketball game. o.o;

Sounds like London 2011 is a lot like Los Angeles circa the Rodney King riots.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Does seem a bit racist to shoot the guy just because he was black and shot at them first. Go, rioters! FOR GREAT JUSTICE!

It's not clear if he did shoot the police first. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/aug/07/police-attack-london-burns

I don't think these riots have much to do with that anymore though. Especially as riots have started in Birmingham too.

Ues, I couldn't think of where to put it x_x

as for the scale, it's brewing but I think the police could easily quash this if they stepped up their game but considering it was their supposed "heavy handdedness" that started it... they are damned if they do and damned if they do so...

A DAD told last night how he and his wife had to beg for their lives as berserk Tottenham rioters threatened to torch their car with their baby inside it.
