Forums - General - Are emotions really important?

But if we were put into a controlled environment, couldn't we work like robots? Wouldn't that be beneficial to humankind?

If you were one of those robots and worked for me so that I can have a fantastic life, then I am all for it.

My idea was to have the "robot" humans working in regular offices etc. until the end of working hours, where the drug (etc) would wear off and the humans can go back to living their life as normal until the next day. It's not like they'd be living as robots for their whole lives

Emotions aren't a problem as long as you can seperate yourself from them to get the job done.

I'm not saying that it's technically possible, but I'm just putting the idea out there.

No. I'm not referring to the possibility of it. I actually think such a drug can be made in time.

But giving people drugs so they will space out and work more efficiently and robot-like? Does that sound right at all?

I think the majority of working people would reject such an idea.

Then there's the possible side-effects.

Edit: Aha! I know what's filling up your head with such thoughts! It's that Harry Potter nonsense! Destroying the minds of our youth with its' evil and voodoo magic! We must eradicate this threat before it pushes them further into madness!

;D

You can block emotions completly since decades no big deal. There is a drug that makes you a robot. Its called Haldol/Haloperidol it is used in psychiatric clinics for schizoprenia for example. It is also called chemical straitjacket.

People usually hate it its like a prison. Most people think it makes you fall asleep but actually it robbs your emotions and just makes you not want anything. It emptys you. Emotions are the thing that drives higher lifeforms a humanoid robot would need emotions to be intelligent without emotions no smart live humans would die. Dopamine/Serotonine/Noradrenaline and other are the things that make you feel something. Thats why Excstasy makes you feel love it floods your brain with Serotonine but the brain cant work properly with a diminished amount of those neurotransmitter. And thats necessary to relatively not feel. And not feeling at all equals death. Emotions are impossible to remove from the brain totally they give you reasons to live/reasons to think. Emotions are what drives every human on a biochemical level and on a psychological level.
.Most people hate it.

Last sentence doesnt belong there and I cant edit my post (ps3)

Btw working with no emotions would only work for simple work because it will make you a lot dumber and you will also make more mistakes since the neurotransmitters are also important for concentration. There is an operation that makes you relatively emotionless its called lobotomy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lobotomy.
