What about L2, R2, L3 and R3 button functionalities?

well the trackpad could easily suplement the L2 and R2.

for L3 and R3, has there been any evidence that the sticks dont click down? i dont know either way. but if they dont click again you could easily use the trackpad or even the front screen

I remember when Sony talked about the PSP utilizing the PS3 and it's games.

example: using it like a rear view mirror for racers and such, but it never happened.

I see them using it like PSP's remote play.  A feature I think needs to be updated.

I dont think the PSP was powerful enough to do the things Sony wanted, i believe the Vita will be better at it. But its all just meh, I want Vita for a handheld could really care less about streaming from PS3,  but options dont hurt, much

Day one buy for me... my first portable.

That's nice I suppose. I'm sure Wii U will use it more or better, since that's what the Wii U is all about. I'm not ready to scream "Wii U DOOOO000OOmEd" but I am still not impressed by it at all. Maybe it's a little to early to hate on it.

The only advantage I see with this is that third parties may be able to port their Wii U games on PS3 with the same fonctionality as well as regular control. If Wii U is popular, thats probably what will happen (if PS3/vita can really do what Wii U do).

back touch pad for L2 R2

not sure about L3 R3, but i would think that function is already there.

Well as much as I think it sounds like a great idea it will not compete with WiiU.

First off the Vita costs like 250-300$ so anyone wanting to play a PS3 game and experiance something similiar to WiiU will have to spend like 600$ to do so. Also that being said many won't buy a Vita and PS3 so how large will the install base be? Big enough for developers to actually take advantage of the feature? Probably not.

In the end the WiiU controller will come with the WiiU and even if Sony managed to get an install base of like 5-million people owning Vita's and PS3's the WiiU will dwarf PS3 in power. Customers just won't get the same quality or bang for their buck buying a PS3 and Vita as they would simply buying a WiiU.

However I find it pretty awsome that yet again before the device is even out Sony is already trying to copy it!

In theory PSV+PS3/PS4 can be just like Wii U. But it never will be for the simple fact that probably only about 20% of PS3 owners will have PSVs. Not even 1st party studios are going to develop for a very small segment of dual owners. And that's if PSV sells at least as well as PSP, which I doubt it will for exactly the same reasons 3DS won't sell as well as DS.
