Forums - Gaming - Sega/Dreamcast fanatics. I am (Re)buying a Dreamcast w/ some games.. Any reccomendations?

My Dreamcast has been busted for quite some time now, and for years I kind of set it aside, since the Wii, DS, PC and 360 occupied most of my gaming time and I was never a huge DC guy anyway. But lately there have been very few games released on any of those that interest me, so I have begun to go retro, and I realized how much fun me and my friends and family had with some of the DC games. During the few years the console worked, I never really got too into it, and played very few games for it. My sister actually was the one who bought it, just to play Space Channel 5 (yes I'm serious). But to quote the band Cinderella, you don't know what you've got till it's gone..

I found that you can buy one used on Amazon for roughly 30 bucks, which is quite a steal, and many of its games can be bought used for budget prices of $5-10. As of now, I plan on rebuying Grandia II, Tony Hawk 2, Chu Chu Rocket, Powerstone 2, and Space Channel 5, as mine are scratched to hell. I also have Virtua Tennis, whcih doesn't look too banged up, and I'm considering Soul Calibur. Are there any must haves that I might have missed? I am open to pretty much any genre. I had heard Shemue is a quality title, what's that game like? I also heard Skies of Arcadia is a supurb RPG for the DC, but that one is a little pricey for a game I know very little about. Is that one worth it? I appreciate it!

I would highly recommend Skies of Arcadia. I've only played the GC port, but the DC original is not that different. For the GC version, they just toned down the amount of random encounters and had lower quality music to fit it onto 1 disc (compared to 2 on the DC). If you like 4th and 5th gen styled JRPGs, I'm sure you will love Skies of Arcadia.

It's a good length too, I took about 55 hours to complete it. Altogether it has to be among my favourite RPGs of all time. I was lucky and found a copy of SoA: Legends for only £30 ($49.27) on Ebay U.K, however I've seen copies of either the original and the port go up to £75 ($123.17).

Street Fighter 3 third strike, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Jet Grind Radio, Shenmue II, Metropolis Street Racer, Rival School 2: Project Justice, Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, Bangai-O, Rez, Seaman, Ikagura, Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram, Tom Clancy's Rogue Spear, Samba de Amigo

If only it were still worth playing (due to lack of servers) i'd be all over Phantasy Star Online, though the DC version is the inferior version, you need DC v 2.0 just to get Ultimate mode, and you can get better on Xbox, GameCube, or PC for varying versions

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Vanishing Point is a good racing game, Record of Lodoss War is a good RPG "Diablo Like", Sword of the Berserk is a good hack'n slash and pretty scary. and my last recomendation as Dreamcast fan is Headhunter, not a AAA game, but very fun. Reminds me MGS, but more with more action.

Good luck with your new new Dreamcast, you will have a lot of things to play!

Oh wait, and Guilty Gear X! Awesome game indeed. :D
