“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Good lord, you have no idea how happy I would be if the US adopted the metric scale. The English system is a pain for conversions, it's convoluted, and nobody else uses it. Unfortunately, in many industries here (like the aerospace industry), so many things are set up to be done in the English system, that it is unlikely to go away any time soon. |
Considering the English have mostly stopped using it should be proof enough it's outdated (Road signs in the UK still use Miles and yards though, and in most places both imperial and metric weights are given... it's taking an annoyingly long time to ween this country off imperial measure)
More annoying than the US using imperial though is that the US is the major source of influence on the internet, so it pollutes the rest of the world.
And holy shit at that lighthouse pic.

You know, though, the date really isn't as "logical smooth sailing" as the picture contends; it's not truly little-endian since the hours, minutes, etc. are invariably big-endian. Logically, therefore, dates ought to be big-endian to match: 2012 March 03 04:43...
I do wonder how the wave could possibly miss him; and yet he probably was used to that place so it would seem likely he was fine.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.
