I would definitely put "Corridors of Time" from Chrono Trigger as one of the best music themes I've ever heard. It's probably my favorite theme from it, which is my favorite game of all time. Other notable themes that come to mind from this amazing soundtrack are "Guardia Millenial Fair", "Battle 1", "Kaeru's Theme" and of course the main theme.
I love many soundtracks from the 8-bit/16-bit eras, like the ones from Street Fighter II and Mega Man original/X games from Capcom, the Ninja Gaiden NES ones and Captain Tsubasa II from Tecmo, Metroid/Punch Out !/Super Mario Bros games and F-Zero from Nintendo, King of Fighters 96 through 2000 from SNK, Choujin Sentai Jetman (Famicom), Kunio-kun no Nekketsu Soccer League (Famicom), some Sonic themes ("Green Hill Zone" included), some Final Fantasy themes, etc. This period of time is where most of the game music I love was created.
Still, I do have some examples after that glorious time... like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Star Fox 64, F-Zero X, Star Gladiator II/Plasma Sword, Daisuke Ishiwatari's work with Guilty Gear and BlazBlue, some of Final Fantasy VII/VIII/X, some of Chrono Cross, some of the first 2 Street Fighter Alpha games, some from Capcom VS crossovers, some themes from Mega Man 9 (maybe not so "recent" ?) and... a popular eroge game that I don't know if I could mention here...
Anyway, there's just too much to list... and I can't really choose one. I would embed some but, silly me, I don't know how to do so.
EDIT: I can't believe I forgot about "Bloody Tears" from Castlevania II... I love that theme.
