I ended up getting much more games than I thought I would a couple months back, and I enjoyed a bunch of games. To my surprise, and only 1 was a disappointment.
Here's my impression of those games I played, in order of enjoyment:
GHIII: A total blast. Completely exceeded any expectations of mine. I do need to mention that this is my first Guitar Hero game. Right up there with Warioware and Super Paper Mario in terms of enjoyment, but looks like it'll have much longer replay value. Possibly better because this is making me think about doling out $170 when Rock Band comes to the Wii--and to my complete surprise, my wife said "$170? That sounds like a pretty good deal." She's actually enjoying GHIII, another surprise, since she had repeatedly said no to rhythm games like DDR and Elite Beat Agents.
Mario and Sonic: Unlike GHIII, my parents had fun with this too. In terms of total family fun, exceeds GHIII. But when I'm by myself, I go to GHIII. Which makes Mario and Sonic a little annoying because I haven't unlocked a single game yet and I want to know wha's there.
Zack and Wiki: When I'm not playing GHIII, I go to Zack and Wiki. I got this as a gift, and though I'm having great fun with this, I'm still not willing to spend $39 on this myself. Probably has to do with that I feel that it'll get too difficult for me at some point.
DDR: Just not enjoying this. Poor song selection is the primary reason. GHIII has a song selection so much superior to this I can't imagine ever coming back to this, despite the entirely different gameplay.
I also bought Star Wars Wii and FFIII DS. Star Wars Wii a bad purchase, I get dizzy from playing 3D games. FFIII DS my wife is enjoying a lot, but I realized that I'm beginning to tire of the RPG genre and stopped playing after about 10 minutes. I also got used copies of FF: Crystal Chronicles (GC) and Baten Kaitos Origin (GC), but again, played no more than 10 minutes. I should just stop buying RPGs. But I'm waiting for Etrian Odyssey 2... wonder if when I get that I'll get the same feeling.
What are some of the games you enjoyed this holiday season?
the Wii is an epidemic.
