Despite how disappointing City Folk for Wii ended up being, I'm very excited about the new Animal Crossing game for 3DS. Iwata has said the game will likely come by the end of their fiscal year (March 2012), but very little information about the game has been revealed. The game was barely mentioned at E3 except for a new trailer (how do you embed videos now?).

Previously they had mentioned that in the new game you would be mayor of the town, which would add in new gameplay mechanics for the series that has become a bit stale after the Wii game. From the trailer it seems like there are a number of small details that have been changed/updated, including mushrooms, outdoor items (benches and street lamps), being able to swim, more customization options when displaying furniture in the house, and I'm sure I am missing a few.

So if it is coming soon why do you think Nintendo has not shown the game off more? Are you excited for the game? What new features would you like to see added in?

Some things I'd like

-Larger expansions for the house, I think that there should be a lot of house expansions available (10+), there are tons of items in the games, but not enough room to display them all at once and the game kind of feels completed when you get the last house expansion so this would extend the playtime of the game.

- New things to collect - Fossils, bugs, fish, paintings are fine, but I would like them to add in 2-3 new things, plus make the museum a more interesting place to visit.

- Turn some of the furniture into minigames, you can buy pool tables, and other things, I would like these to be turned into minigames, to kind of replace the NES games you could play in the original.

-Allow wi-fi town visitors even when you are not playing. I think this is an obvious one, but it would be exciting to be able to turn the game on and expect something new because other players had visited your town.

I loved Wild World on DS and played it extensivly and this has been one of my most anticpated titles since 3DS was first announced. I can't wait for it and I like the various changes that have been made. Being able to swim, the updated art style, the greater customization. This is going to be a great game.

Any other thoughts on Animal Crossing 3DS? It seems like there are not strong feelings (one way or the other) about the Animal Crossing franchise on VGC.

I voted No out of little confidence, but after viewing that trailer it seems like for once they might actually be making a new game in the series, rather than an expansion pack.

The Link/Master Sword part was also quite intriguing, as was the swimming.

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

mini-games on consoles, cinematic games on handhelds, what's next? GameBoy IMAX?

I loved Wild World, it's a portable game and will always be like this...the Wii version is superior but the fellings are not the same. The future game is one of my most hyped games, probably the first for 3DS, it could be an epic win but I doubt Nintendo will risk much beyond graphics...I would like more "builders" features, it should not become a Sim City but still it would be great to develop deeply our town. I would also like more mini-games to play with friends (real and animals, just speaking with them to not make them go away is boring).

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

Big time AC fan here. I even made the City Folk FC thread back in the day on VGC. Anyways, it looks like they are mixing things up a little more than usual with the series. Some of the suggested additions by you and a few other members would be nice features. There should be more buildings that come along after your city starts taking off. Like a bowling alley or arcade that you can play mini games on would be nice. Also, I agree with the OP that the museum could use some sprucing up. It is a shame that Nintendo took the VC games out of AC series after GC version. I know they want to sell them on VC but being able to play NES games on the GC version was a pretty cool feature. We will never see that again but different mini games from an arcade or bowling alley would be nice. I suppose they could just have an arcade in a bowling alley.

Glad to see some responses. How would you all like to see the communication aspects of the game improved? The letter writing to the animals in the original game was pretty novel, but the lack of updates have cause that to become boring too. I'd like to see some greater text recognition by the animals, so it will actually matter what you say in letters. I'd also like to see greater impact on the animals based on the players actions.
