Forums - Microsoft - Kinect more accurate now than at launch, Microsoft confirms tech has advanced

Eurogamer

As rumoured earlier this month, Microsoft has confirmed that its Kinect peripheral is more accurate now than it was at launch.

Xbox senior product manager David Dennis told Eurogamer that some of the software shown off during its E3 show demonstrated the improvements it has made to the add-on.

"Yeah," he said. "I think like we showed at E3, like Kudo showed with Kinect Fun Labs – a lot of that tech is the advancements we've made in the accuracy, the tracking... being able to show finger tracking in the sparkles demo he did.

"You saw too with Ubisoft's gunsmith demo [for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier] he was using his hand to fire in the firing range mode. I think that's the kind of thing we're going to continue to iterate on."

Although he wouldn't offer specifics, Dennis insisted that Microsoft aims to continue to update both Kinect and the 360 itself in the coming months and years.

"That's the beauty of Xbox. We've been doing that with Xbox 360, starting three or four years ago - continuing to deploy new software updates to improve the functionality, like enabling finger tracking and voice search, and also to bring new partners like Netflix on.

"These [updates] are very deliberate and planned and programmed," he added. "There are already people working on things for next year and the year after inside our secret bunkers, and we'll continue to bring amazing stuff that consumers love."

With what exactly?

The Wii remote is more accurate now than it was when it launched. Microsoft copied improved accuracy from Nintendo!

It does seem that way doesn't it.

I'm waiting to be amazed with anything that is involved with Kinect. I own a Kinect with 5 games. None of them are that great. Dance Central is pretty cool, but aside from that they are just a bunch of laggy games that would be better played with a controller.

Damm MS what will they copy next?

OT: Glas to hear its improved, especially that it can detect finger movements now

So he's confirming what we already suspected: They DO have secret bunkers.

Looking forward to seeing what Kinect 2.0 on 720 can do.

lol it's funny how people are miss guided.... I used to fundamentaly hate MS.... then I got to work with people working there... and to make some research of my own.... there is more stuff that have been copyed from MS than the opposite... without saying that most of what they are accused of copying is usually plain false....
most comon one being bill stealing MSdos.... that's the most outrageous one.....

and for MS and there SP there is a reason why it is the number one in the world and it's not because it's the worst one..... I'd agree that their business practice is not always fair but usually it's not against the end consumer but other competitors in the market.....without MS most of the past 20 years wouldn't have seen that much innovation.... they made PC accessible to all and help businesses everyday improve their performance..... now the variety of hardware available on PC it is bound to not be perfect..... but honnestly for 90% of the users.... a 5 years old PC with windows XP is way enough to check mails, go on FB and youtube and chat on skype.....

I've seen more innovation on there console since they are in the market than Sony and even nintendo did and even with their OS when you see where 8 is heading they have been innovating more over the past 15 years than apple with MAC OS
