Forums - Gaming - Microsoft: 'We wouldn't trade places with Sony, Nintendo' But we have "high respect" for both our competitors

Microsoft has "high respect" for both of its competitors but "wouldn't trade places with anybody."

That's according to Xbox's EMEA VP, Chris Lewis, who told MCV in a new interview he believes Microsoft's home console is in "an enviable position".

"As you can imagine we keep a close eye on our colleagues, and they are our colleagues," he said. "I know you guys see us as arch-rivals, which of course we are, but we are also colleagues in this industry and we do talk to one another.

"So we have high respect for both our competitors," he added. "We watched both of their [E3] press conferences. I still believe we are in an enviable position. I wouldn't trade places with anybody."

Lewis pointed to the Xbox 360 online service as a strength for Microsoft: "We are hugely well placed with Xbox Live and how that connects to phone and PC and TVs, and all the service provision that goes with that puts us in a fantastic position," he said.

In the same interview the Microsoft man said he thinks Xbox 360 is about halfway through its lifecycle.

You know ....... you have to be a really big fanboy for Sony or Nintendo or a REALLY big MS hater to find fault with those respectful comments.

They are going to market the 360 as a anti 2012 world ending device.

You're way off. It's obviously the unannounced ties between Microsoft's Kinect and the Adult Entertainment Industry. They helped VHS over BetaMax, Blue Ray over HD DVD.... and now it's Kinect's turn to revolutionize the quality of... stuff... we... consume?

Oh ye of little faith

He believes that Microsoft is an enviable position, but right now no company is in such a position. He also claimed that waves of families and a younger audience are flocking to Kinect, but software sales tell a different story. Yes, that isn't mentioned in this article, but it's from the same interview and I don't feel like posting in two different threads right now.

I believe all 3 of them are successful right now in various ways, so all of them are in a respectively enviable position.  Of course I'm more I'm more of a glass-half-full person when dealing with this subject.

How do software sales tell a different story when we have no idea of the demographic that is buying up Kinect?  Also are you saying that Kinect device and software sales are bad?  And if so, compared to what exactly?

I really didn't expect THE VERY NEXT POST to take me up on my faux challenge, but I guess I forgot where I was ...

And they both will say the same about microsoft so they was taking a cheap shot/low blow.
