It didn't address the part I was hoping they would i.e it's just one person's opinion but it does raise some good points.
Interesting video. I've always found it humorous how an 8/10 for games is about equivalent to a 2/4 for movies. In regards to game reviews not being written like movie reviews, I personally like the way game reviews are written a lot. I don't want to read some fancy schmancy play of words to tell me about the game. I want a simply written review that is easy to understand, and will tell you all the pros and cons of the game.
Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.
Wow, that was pretty deep.
"I don't know what this Yamcha is, but it sounds just like Raditz."
After watching that vid, I can only say
Please excuse my bad English.

| Machina said: Actually, I prefer it to the film scale and I find the tacit endorsement of the film scale kinda odd given they also say our game scale "doesn't leave us a lot of room to differentiate an all time classic from something that's simple very competently executed". Right, and the film scale does? O_o |
You nailed it. There are so many movies nowadays that get a 3.5-4 star rating, I'd say their rating system makes it even harder yet to tell an all time classic from something else.

I agree, game reviews are typically horribly written. Even an organization as big as IGN (especially IGN actually) write some terrible reviews. Its reads very much like an instruction manual: Story, graphics, sound, game play, conclusion. The writers are so bad at what they do. Their articles are rife with spelling and grammar errors, and the content of their review is just so mediocre, they miss out on essential elements in the game or brief over them. Like the example in the video "bosses are pretty cool though lack some polish". I went to the article and that is literally all the person said about the boss fights. That is so pathetic and inexcusable. But they get away with it, because their readers can be just as stupid and don't hold them accountable for their crummy reviews.
There are always arguments about the final score cause that is all gamers ever look at, but no one mentions a thing about the quality of the review and the content within the article.
I agree, movie reviews are far more entertaining to read than game reviews. Movie reviews seem to be written by critics that have a solid grasp of the English language and assume their readers share the same attribute. Game reviews are written by man-sized children who assume their audience is just as dumb as them. Frankly, it gets insulting at times, and I can't finish an article due to the poorly selected string of consonants and vowels.
