Forums - Sony - Sony 'laid off security staff' two weeks before PSN hack

CVG

Members of Sony's security team were laid off two weeks before the PSN hack back in April, a lawsuit filed against the company alleges.

It also claims that Sony spent big on security to protect its own corporate information, while failing to do the same for customer data.

Sony installed appropriate firewalls and other security measures to protect its own sensitive data, but chose not to do the same for customer data, Reuters reports

The platform holder also laid off "a substantial percentage" of its Sony Online Entertainment workforce, including "a number" of employees in its Network Operations Centre, which is responsible for preparing for, and responding to, security breaches, according to the lawsuit.

So this lawsuit is against a company for doing what companies do in general practice and bad financial situations?

From the reuters link in the article:

Sony also spent lavishly on security to protect its own corporate information, while failing to do the same for its customers' data, the proposed class action lawsuit alleges.

...

In a lawsuit filed in a San Diego federal court on Monday, a proposed class of Sony customers says the company knew it was at increased risk of attack because it had experienced prior, smaller breaches.
