Forums - Gaming - Who will win the next gen console wars

I remember someone saying how the consoles next gen will follow individual lifespans instead of all three being together as a unit like previous gens.

For example, the WiiU might launch in 2012, the PS4/720 in 2013/2014, and then the next Nintendo console in 2017 or something. I think it would be quite hard to determine a "winner" if that's the case

it was me Jay

and sure looks that way now dosen't it?

to play along i say to clos to call in the final yrs of next gen as PS4 will likely be out longer than its rivals.

and yes ur friend is hot.

IF you had asked this a couple years before this gen started, people would have said Sony. Look how that turned out.

No one knows at this point. No one.

Nintendo will dominate another generation with their 3DS and Wii-U. The 3DS slow sales will get better. Right now sales are being split between the 3DS and DS. The 3DS is out and has the hardware lead and the PSP Vita will not surpass it. Nintendo 3DS will have a (5) five million (+)plus lead before the PSP Vita launch. Sony has already said that they are in no hurry to release Playstation 4. Nintendo will launch the Wii-U next year and by Christmas they will clean up with no other hardware on the market to challenge them. Sony wants to gain revenue that it lost with the Playstation 3 and is in no hurry to release new hardware. I know Microsoft is working on their next console and will likely launch it in the year 2013. They may launch their system fourth quarter next year but no 3rd party have said they have dev kits meaning they will not have a launch lineup. No hardcore gamer can refuse the new Wii-U with Killer Freaks game.

Considering that only one 8th gen platform has launched and only 2 more revealed, it is way too early to do meaningful speculation

Their were two leaks, then the publishers denied having kits. However the fact that both these leaks came from respectable sites and apparently good sources I wouldn't doubt theirs a possibility the leaks were true. Nintendo in the past has out right lied to us and said a product didn't exist and the developers claimed they did not have kits. Then one week or so later bamb Iwata announces a new DS model or console.

Its PR, developers have signed NDA's and if Microsoft tells them to deny having kits they are going to deny having kits. Infact Microsoft themselves started hiring developers for next generation software like two years ago. A story they quickly squashed by editing the ad. Gamasutra reported the ad and the news was taken down fairly quickly. But fact is if Microsoft was already hiring software developers for next gen products like two years ago, it would make sense that Microsoft could launch Nex-Box in 2012/13 with a big line-up!

As for 3DS sales, no matter how you look at it they aren't impressive. DS was sold out everywhere when it launched I had mine pre-ordered if I hadn't I wouldn't have gotten one for months. The things flew off the shelves for like two years being in short supply. Demand was outstripping supply big time. With 3DS the PSP actually beat it a few weeks that is very sad and definatly not a good thing.

As for telling who's going to win I think that depends on hardware power pricing and release date. If Nex-Box releases in Christmas 2012 which some are rumouring and is more powerful then WiiU at the same price. it could lead to a very close fight for Nintendo especially if Kinect 2.0 launches against the WiiU controller.

I think its too early to predict a home console winner. Handheld wise I think Vita could win if Sony plays their cards right. 3DS still has a shot but Nintendo has to market the shit out of it and convince consumers to upgrade from their DSi's.

@Joelcool7, lets hope Microsoft learned it lesson and releases a console that doesn't have any major flaws in it. Maybe this time they will actually take time and if any problems arise during production that they will take a step back and fix the problem before they release the actual console.

Lets hope Sony learned about price also. I am sure they now have a price target range for PS4 around 350-500 max.

Businesses: IBM and ARM. To a lesser degree: Nvidia, AMD and PowerVR.

Consumers: People who like video games.

The above will, with 100% certainty, win the coming generation.
