I don't doubt it. But it will certainly take a lot of time because of how expensive it is. Average fluorescent tubes cost between $2-$10, while average LED tubes cost between $50-$100. Not many people are willing to take that big of a jump. Eventually when prices get lower (as they already are with the use of metal-coated silicon wafers), people will start buying them because they are clearly superior to fluorescent lights (even though the light isn't as strong as fluorescent's).

i have an LED TV does that mean i am doing it good for the environment?

Yup! LED TVs similarly don't utilize mercury gas and use smaller amounts of carbon dioxide, thus making them more environmentally friendly. *high fives*

are these still the prices?

I have led lamps to replace my Halogen lamps (much less heat is nice)... they weren't all that expensive.

It's funny though that this spam thread is actually mostly a sensible article on the Leds... I recall reading an article 15 years ago on how leds were the future. With their incorporation into everything and the use as flashlights for phones, I started to think that the prices were getting quite decent.

in any case when LEDs should be one of the major push of the green parties and such... Cars to electric... there are many downsides, but light to led.... win win all arround and considering the amount of light we use, the ecological outcome might be worth the shift in focus.

I think they're cheaper now, but they're still much more expensive than fluorescent lamps. Over time they will overtake fluorescent lamps (at least in the developed nations).
