A mouse certainly makes it a lot easier, unless you're very comfortable with using a track pad wit 1 hand and the other on the keyboard.
A bigger screen doesn't hurt either, the higher the resolution the more you can see of the world at any time.
I play it on my laptop but I have to a mouse as I seem to be disabled at using the touchpad for just about everything.
