Forums - Sony - Forget an Uncharted Movie...

Why take game franchises that necessitate trying to make live action films? Why not a game franchise that could be made into an animated movie? After all there's almost no game with that great of a story it would make a great (or even good) movie. Even the most die hard fan of Uncharted would eventually have to admit the uncharted stories are closer in quality to the 4th Indiana Jones movie than the 1st. I'm not a die hard fan of Uncharted but it's one of my favourite game franchises this gen.

So why not make a movie from an animated franchise instead. Heck with the quality of animation achieved in current gen games you could almost make the movie using the game engine.

What game am I thinking about in particular? Ratchet & Clank. Or rather the origin story. After A Crack in Time we learn a little of Ratchet's people so an origin story could be pretty neat. Animated also means it doesn't matter what the game voice actors look like.

Animated shows often translate well to games (Naruto, One Piece) so animation style games could tanslate well to animated movies. Mario Bros. went wrong because they tried to make a live action movie, they should have made it an animated movie and it may have come out OK.

Last year I made a thread that died with no glory in which I ranted against that stupid need that almost every gamer has to see their favourite franchises become films.
Are we gamers or what? I personally believe games can sometimes tell stories in a more effective way than movies. No need to dumb it down. See the analogy?
Game stories are for gamers... you wanna experience Uncharted? Play the games.

I couldn't agree with you more! Think about it? What if Uwe Boll directed the movies.....

Anyone who's breaking the law is obvious a criminal.

Hitman was a good movie.
Silent Hill was a good movie.
The first Resident Evil was good, and the second one was decent. The latest ones have been awful but financially successful.
Doom was enjoyable.
The Tomb Raiders are popular.
An Uncharted movie could be just as good, if not better than all of them.

As for your idea of making an animated movie from an animated source. Do you know how awfully hard it would be to convince the public to go to the theatres and watch it? What would be the draw? The story? There is a reason why the animated movies of Deadspace, Resident Evil, Halo, Street Fighter, etc. didn't make it to the theaters. The only one that did, which I actually kinda liked, was Final Fantasy and it lost so much money it closed down Square pictures. If Avatar the Last Airbender was not live action it wouldn't have made a 10th of the money it did. Though they may be quality animated movies, financially it doesn't make sense unless it's some low budget straight to DVD animated movie.
