Pachter predicted "Wii HD" for two years ago, he was wrong, but has the audacity to say that Nintendo merely released their system two years after they should have? Pachter was wrong, he is always wrong.

One VERY stupid comparison that I see people make is that the Wii U is going to be like the Dreamcast because it is underpowered. Why not compare it to a Nintendo console that was underpowered? Like the Wii?

The argument that "The Wii U is too underpowered like the Dreamcast" is stupid. Why not argue "The Wii U is underpowered like the Wii". It would make more sense, considering the Wii is a Nintendo console and the Dreamcast isn't.

The truth is, none of you have any idea what you are talking about. Pachter most certainly has never had any idea what he is talking about; he is always wrong.

It is even worse than that.  In 2008, Patcher predicted a Wii HD in 2009.  In 2009, he thought we would see one in 2010.  Then he gave up and said PS3 was a HD Wii.  Now that Nintendo is moving on to a new generation at the historical time, Patcher loses his marbles over it.

I tried to look up more info on Patcher but barely could find any.  He doesn't have his own wiki page.  They mention him in a few wiki pages but no actually page for him.   To my understanding he hasn't really been paying attention to the video game industry for too long of a time.  Did he just start commenting/"predicting" this generation?   I never even heard of him before this generation.  Sure he could have taken a crash course in video game history but he would probably fail any exams I give him.  I wish he would just go away.  I wish this site would ban him.  This is the only info I could find of him...

Why? His opinions are usually interesting and inspire discussion. Also, keep in mind he has a different perspective then forum posters. When Pachter says Nintendo should put out an HD console earlier, it's from a strategy / investment standpoint, not a blind fanboy or a gamer one. When Pachter says it's too late, he means they lost an opportunity for sales, not that the WiiU is bad or is going to bomb.

I am sorry but insisting Nintendo to release a HD console earlier is just plain stupid.  It makes zero strategy/investment sense at all.  For one, the Wii is still selling decent.  Two, Nintendo waits at least five years before releasing another home console system.  Three, Nintendo is clearly not even ready to release the Wii U yet consider the specs aren't even finalized.  His strategy would have only hurt Nintendo in the long run.  I could go on and on...  Let me just point out that if Nintendo did release a HD system 2-4 years after the Wii then the specs wouldn't even be as good (since they like to use cost effective chips/etc and you already have "hardcore" gamers saying the not even finalized specs are still not good enough), you would have fragmented the Wii consumers, and the controller probably wouldn't have been implemented the way they wanted to.  Tell me why releasing another system within 2-4 years after the Wii being Nintendo's fastest selling home console system ever would have made sense.

I think Pachter would be able to bring down Nintendo in a week with his decisions and strategy to make things better :P

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Not only do i think the Wii U will be successful, i HOPE it will be. I started gaming on my first console which was the NES, since then I've owned a SNES, N64, and Gamecube, but I never bought a Wii.

I consider myself one of those people that Nintendo "lost" for this gen, but I've never rejected Nintendo as a whole, and I think their taking the right steps to win me back.

The reason that no one believed him about Wii HD is precisely because it made zero business sense for Nintendo.  Launching a new console mid-generation is only going to piss-off/confuse your customers, screw up 3rd party support, and make sure that your new console is going to be obsolete in about 2-3 years when the other players move to new hardware.  Then what?  Ask your customers to upgrade again?
