Forums - Website Topics - So how do you go about embedding video these days?

I knew a lot of the old tricks — Editing after you post, pasting it into html — but the old ways don't seem to cut it anymore. Or if they do, it doesn't show in the thread preview page. The embedding code just seems to get eaten up.

It actually stopped working for me well before gamrconnect 3.0, so I just stopped bothering with embeds. But now I've promised to fill the new mobile forum with game threads, and that means videos.

I see other people embedding, so what's the new ritual? How large an animal do I have to sacrifice?

paste the object/video link from the HTML edit.

also, being naked while doing it raises your success rate by 17%.

Thanks for the response.

I now see that the problem is that Youtube's new embed code uses an iframe and VGC obviously doesn't like iframes. If you ask Youtube for the old embed code, it still works just fine.

Also, being naked helped, but I don't think I'll be doing that while I'm at work again.

I hadn't realised the embed object button had dissapeared from the RTE. How annoying.

So how have people been doing it if iframes don't work? direct html?

Aha... youtube has an option for "use old embed code"... that looks like it might work:

Lets try with the iframe:

weird stuff going on there.... I used the quick reply box to post the one with an iframe, and it didn't work, but trying the old "edit post" trick showed the iframe in the text editor, but then all the iframe code got deleted when I re-submitted the post.

So the way to do it is:
1. Find youtube vid
2. Click share, then click embed
3. Click on "use old embed code"
4. Copy/paste the code into VGC
5. Then for some reason after posting you have to re-edit your post.

One last test... this is using youtubes old embed code put straight into the quick reply (because the embed, object and param tags are apparently allowable in the quick reply)
