It's been said before, but I fully agree with the statement that Nintendo produces hardware to support its software rather than the other way around. While they seem to be transitioning towards a position where other developers and publishers have more potential, if they apply themselves, to thrive on the Wii U I think their stance is still a focus of hardware that supports software. That means any multimedia functions the console possesses, with a few exceptions, will be limited unless Nintendo sees it as an application they can use. Firstly Nintendo is a company that creates video games, secondly they create hardware that can play the games, and everything else is supplementary to that. The other manufacturers on the other-hand wish to control the living room; and that is why their focus is on features and hardware. That is the most evident and clear distinction between Nintendo and Sony/Microsoft. It is also why you'll always see a clear difference, unless the position of one company chances, between them.
