Forums - Sony - Dark Souls Heavily Compressed for X360 Version PS3 Version May Have Higher Quality

When Demon’s Souls was released several years ago by Atlus in North America, it was a PS3 exclusive. With the follow up title, Dark Souls coming this year, it will no longer be a PS3 exclusive title as a Xbox 360 version is coming as well. Now, the big question is, which of the two versions is better?

While playing the demo of Dark Souls at the Namco Bandai booth today at the E3 show floor, one of the questions I asked to the Namco Bandai representative is to what are the sacrifices From Software had to do in order to put it on the Xbox 360. A simple answer given to us is, “a lot of compression has to be done on the Xbox 360 to make it stay on a single disc”.

When it comes to compressing a game on the Xbox 360, we all know how much quality it loses. For players who are thinking of purchasing Dark Souls on the PS3, expect the data to be uncompressed, thus having better quality in terms graphics and sounds. Take note that the lead platform of Dark Souls is the PS3 and the Xbox 360 is a direct port.

Im probably going to have a 360 by the time it comes out and i am going to base it on sales. In demons souls, the game had little sales and sometimes it was hard to find random players to fight. I think the sales is what will make the difference for me. However, i dont know which game will sell more in America lol. It will be close. If the game gets 7's, then the ps3 version will destroy the 360 version. But if it gets 9's, it will be close.

Demons souls was a 6.5 gig game. I doubt this will be that much bigger. The only thing compressed will most likely be the 7.1 audio. PS3 will look and run better due to it being lead but not due to some mass level of compression.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Thats pretty much what im basing it off of i want the version with most populated servers and such lol. Hopefully they both make the pre-order charts so i can pick on close to release. Though the ps3 version will prob sell more even though these style of games tend to sell better on 360.

Im not sure they supposedly went from 40 monsters to 100, re-did the engine added much more weapons classes and spells and i thought i heard they added a pvp mode. and the worlds a bit bigger though i agree that the compression shouldnt be to big of a deal.
