I think they do a lot of stuff right, though. In the first year of Vita's life, it felt like third-party support was sparse (I'd only really list Acquire & Falcom as strong supporters). But in the past 12 months, it feels like a lot of third parties - Nippon Ichi; Compile Heart; Marvelous AQL; Tecmo Koei; Namco Bandai etc. have gotten back on board. Even SEGA seem a bit more invested now. I don't know what caused that, but I suspect it's SCEJ approaching them and asking them to port; or perhaps even just remnants of old deals (i.e. saying to Namco "You can release your first Sword Art game to PSP's userbase; but the second one must come to Vita).
Of course, it would've been better if they could've stopped Square Enix/Level 5 etc. migrating to smart phones and coming to Vita instead, but even Nintendo have barely managed to stop that, so I doubt there's much SCEJ could've done.
They're really increased their own output on Vita in the past 12 months too. From what - only Gravity Rush in Vita's first year; to Gravity Rush 2/Soul Sacrifice Delta/Freedom Wars/Over my Dead Body 2 etc. in 2014. They were incompetent to ignore it in the first place, but at least they're improving (although, I wish they weren't focusing quite so heavily on Monster Hunter clones).
However, I agree with you on treatment of Vita hardware releases. The remodel would've done much better 2 weeks ago. Less time for sales of the OLED model to stagnate like they have; and it could've released alongside Legend of Heroes/Warriors Orochi which would've had more of an impact than Danganronpa/Soccer Manager.
Or better still, they should've waited until nearer God Eater's release and announced it then.
