I got to play with the Vita for about 5 minutes today at Gamestop. The thing is so damn light, and small. I was expecting something a little more hefty similar to the PSP-1000 (which tbh I would have preferred) but the screen is amazing. I really enjoy how you can jump between tasks at the drop of a hat.

Gravity Rush looked alright, but the graphics looked a little jaggy for my liking. There seemed to be a bit of jaggyness in the demo for UC:GA as well. Overall it looks excellent though, and i'll definitely still be picking one up.

Really hard to judge the system with only 5 minutes of play time, on a damn wire that holds the machine to a display.

Urgh I envy you and everyone else that touched Playstation Vita :P, but 5 minutes is really short to try something. What other demos it had?

Uncharted: Golden Abyss; Little Deviants; Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational; EA Sports FIFA Soccer; ModNation Racers: Road Trip; Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour Edition; Escape Plan and wipEout 2048.

All of which were playable.

Smart, they are demonstrating a nice variety of games.

Is there a way you check how much data you use so far on the 3G model?

Sony announced that on February 8, a system update will be available for the PlayStation Vita in Japan. This update will include a map function. The map will display current location, orientation, and scale. In addition, three types of map can be displayed: satellite photo, satellite photos plus map, and a route that you can search on foot or by car. The search results are displayed with flag points on the map, and you can also see the details of that point. Here are sample images:

Some more info on the new firmware update

"PlayStation Vita owners can look forward to a major update on February 8. The system's version 1.6 update will be available for download on that date and adds two major features.

Your Home screen will now have a Map app. Open this up, and you'll be able to see your positional information on a map. The map can be viewed with satellite imagery turned on and off. You can also search for walking and driving directions and view details about your current location.

The system's photo app will be updated with the ability to take videos. The app is currently limited to static photos.

As a smaller change, the Home button will now flash blue when you have the Vita hooked up to power.

Separate from the system's firmware, Sony will release a MAC OS version of its Content Management Assistant for PlayStation program. Since the Vita's launch, this has been available only for Windows. The program is required for transferring data between your Vita and computer.

This update will also reflect Sony's previously announced naming change from "PlayStation Network Account" to "Sony Entertainment Network Account." This is just a name change. There's no difference in the service features."

That is quite a big update..good to see Sony being vigilant about these things

and some info on MGS HD for Vita

"Kojima Productions has to do a bit of re-recording for the PlayStation Vita version of Metal Gear Solid HD Edition. Hideo Kojima posted a notice at Twitter today announcing that work on the re-recording had just started with Sigint voice actor Keiji Fujiwara.

Kojima also shared this image showing the script and some other stuff."

Good stuff!! But really hope you will be able to take off apps from your home screen. Sense I won't have the 3G vita I don't want that map app on my home screen.

I wonder if the delay with PSV version of MGS is intentional to make sure they can sell 3DS version for full price ;)

I have seen several posts in which people ask for a hide capability, but I also saw a video review (don't know which one), where the man said that if you long hold on the application icon you can move, and remove them (hide or delete I don't know). Is it confirmed that you can't hide the app icons?

More probably you can Move from main screen to a secondary screen... but the first party apps its sure they couldn´t be erased.. a Hide App option could be cool..
