GT6 needed to come to PS3. They needed more money out of the PS3 engine for GT5 and a lot of the Gran Turismo audience are only just upgrading to PS3. PS4 launch would also cannibalize Drive Club sales.
Also geez, took em long enough to make a PS3 GT... we needed another before 2020 :p
Lack of Vita version however is a dissapointment.

no-won't cannibalize if you do it the right way.
1) release drive club as launch title(keep gt6 a secret)
2)3 month after ps4/drive club release the gt6 announcement and release in march 2014 for ps4=new hardware sales momentum.
3)in august 2014 the gt6 announcement for ps3-release sept. 2014
by releasing gt6 for ps3 the ps3 sales may cannibalize ps4 sales as this game is selling systems.people who may have bought a ps4 may buy a ps3 or simply won't buy a ps4 as they can play this game on ps3.
this may create a situation similar to wii-wii u where the old system is selling better as people see no reason to buy the new system.Selling an old dying system is not intelligent.
another problem.gt6 will look pretty good on ps3 and it won't be easy to make the ps4 version look much better.many casual gamers may be confident with the ps3 version.
