This is unacceptable. Wii's control options are a bloody mess. Wii U, instead of fixing this with a new standard controller, just compounds the problem with it's stupid 1-per-console tablet plus backwards compatability.
Nintendo needs to ditch this idea of backwards compatability with old controllers, and make a new Wii remote that features the same buttons as the U tablet.
Take two of those shoulder buttons off of the tablet. Then make a new Wii remote, which is wider and thinner like a SNES controller, so there is room for two analog sticks and the ABXY diamond, and give it two shoulder buttons. Make it thin through the middle so you can still grip it like a remote.
Now there is no need for seperate motion+ or nunchuks, plus the Wii remote and the U tablet have the same inputs minus the screen. If you positioned the analog sticks carefully, you could even use two remotes as a Wii remote + nunchuk setup. Yes, you have to rebuy more controllers, but you DON'T have to buy a hundred little dongles to play all the different games you want. Keep it simple, stupid.
"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."
Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.
