Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Cafe new touch "controller" is standalone

Based on leaked info all over the places so far. I think the touch screen is not built into the controller but it's just a standalone tablet like hardware.

I think the Wiimote Plus will continue to be used along side the tablet. Maybe plug the tablet into the remote like all the other pieces.

So, that means, you won't have to buy more than 1 tablet since the screen could be shared for multiplayers. It would be insane of Nintendo to expect consumers to buy multiple expensive controller accessories.

We'll find out on Tuesday, I'm starting to get excited now as the conferences draw near =D.

Yeah in my thread it says that the screen is detachable so your probably right about it. They will sell separately them or together in different packages

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

sounds like my old mock-up wasn't too far off if this is true... it makes sense considering they also sold the wiimote and nunchuck separately this gen.

This is from a while ago, if I was doing it today I would've had little to no buttons on the tablet part, instead opting for a second attachment on the other side to offset the wiimote.

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Sounds like a smart move on Nintendo to sell them separately.

Me. LOL. Speculation based on leaks.

If it is a standalone peripheral...

No doubt it will be bundled with every Café SKU but my question is..

How much would a standalone tablet cost in comparison to the controller?

Would it be unfathomable for the Tablet to be $74.99 or more and the controller to be $34.99 or more?

Yeah. That's exactly the point. It would be bundled into the console so you would only need 1 tablet. However, we may see future games making use of more tablets for specific gameplay, but that's another thread.

It would be insanely expensive if we are required to buy 4 tablets.

And by the sound of it. the 6'' tablet would probably be $150 for standalone (compared to existing PMP of similar sizes).

The interesting question is whether or not Nintendo intend the tablet to be a standalone entertainment device in addition to just a peripheral. If the thing has built-in Wifi and its own simple processor/memory/OS,  good enough to play NES/SNES style games and simple apps like a web-browser and media player, the split in price could be even bigger...
