The mini map shows more NPC's, it looks like the outskirts of a settlement as there's ocean at the end.

Wild speculation on neogaf suggest there might be monster recruiting in the game as a monster is on your team in one of the battle system bits of the trailer.
I'm sad to say that I've never not cared about a FF game this much in my life after having played 13 lol, I'll get it when it's el cheapo most likely.

So... is Serah one of the main characters? Looks like it.

Town is totally empty, that's a very nice way to save time and money. I guess they didn't have much time to rebuild civilization, so that's a nice excuse right there.
Characters are like caricatures, all of them look like (and some are from) that weird NORA group from the first, totally unbelievable "human" beings and most probably annoying.
Girls are sexed up. Now Serah and Lightning are hentai porn characters.
Battle system is very similar to XIII.
There are a ton of reutilised assets, and they probably used many from the scrapped material from XIII and from unreleased DLC. They put these all in a blender, and voilà. No wonder it took so short to make this game when XIII and vXIII took/is taking ages.
Related to the last point: all enemies are reutilised from XIII

Long narrow corridors are back, with perhaps some ramifications and long wide corridors thrown in.

Well you have to expect "corridors" in the game, every RPG has them in them....this game won't be one open world map after another, no JRPG is.
I could use this image and claim, every map will be huuuge now judging from the mini map, but it won't, its just one location.
