Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft Updated Sales Stats and How It Defies Normal Generation Lifeline

That stat is puzzling...

VGChartz data shows the PS3 down 12% YoY so far in America (obviously not just the US, but closest I have to compare with).

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 03rd Jan 2010 to 29th May 2010:

Console PS3
America
1,829,262

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 02nd Jan 2011 to 28th May 2011:

Console PS3
America
1,605,944

NPD (US only)

2010 (Jan-Apr): 1,131,700
2011 (Jan-Apr): 1,239,000

UP 9.4% in US.

Impressive numbers and great for us gamers having extended console lives because we are actually really getting our money's worth out of these machines.

And what the hell guys, how did this already turn into a PS3 vs 360 thread. Why is it so hard for some of you to just congradulate MS and the 360 for having an excellent showing this generation and move on? Both the PS3 and 360 have performed admirably, the PS3 not so much at first but has REALLY turned things around and seen great success lately.

Basically longer console cycles are good for everyone and seeing healthy growth in any of the Big 3 should be cause for celebration because it means a healthy industry. So stop the bickering please.

I already gave my congratulations in the other two thread about the same subject .

@ ethomaz

well stop with your crusader loyalty for Sony then please in this thread cause its gettin old. Every single thread you post in now days is nothing but straight Sony PR.

You aren't on their pay roll so please take that stuff to where it belong in either the Sony forum or General Gaming forum. This is the MS forum and we don't need you dereailing this thread.

This is NPD data, not worldwide.  In the US the PS3 has already had it's max selling year and is flat/declining.

Nope. PS3 is up in US... this year can be the best PS3 year in US.

Assuming it gets a price cut, yes. That's how Sony always stimulated PS3 sales.

It is UP in US without pricecut.

Yeah, just not nearly as significant as 360's boost.

As you see on the graph it looks flat. We won't see a significant boost until a price cut happens.

Nightsurge said there could be a decline though. I don't see that happening.

No actually its not funny. This a thread in the MS forum and over half the posts are PS3 related. Its getting old, and I know your not the only one who does it but you do it a lot. Again if you want to have a thread talking about PS3 YOY gains go make it in the SONY forum, don't hijack a MS thread in the MICROSOFT forum.

Seriously.

No. It's funny because I just correted the wrong assumption made by @nightsurge... and there are just two other thread with the same subject and same graphic.

That's a dup thread and should be closed .

This whole gen defies all other generations. All 3 systems are incredibly strong, and its the first one where Sony showed faults. Also the first gen where online gaming was taken seriously by all 3 competitors (Microsoft the most, Sony close behind, and Nintendo still lagging behind, but at least they bundled WiFi). I honestly believe that online multiplayer will help this gen stay strong.

What a bunch of nonsense. Expending the capabilities of the Xbox platform, Kinect and Xbox Live aren't the reasons why the typical console lifecycle was defied.

The reason why I am saying this is because it's likely that the PS3 will show a similar sales line once it's done with its sixth year and Sony's console has none of the three things above. Actually, the PS3 removed capabilites (like OtherOS and PS2 BC), had fall its motion controller on the face and PSN... well, I don't want to go there.

So it's two other factors that are at work here and both apply to the 360 and PS3.

Lets not forget PS2. If the roles where reversed, PS3 would probably had sold 80 million by now, wheres M$ where probably gonna scheme for next gen since they would have lost horribly to PS3.

What i am trying to say; is that PS3 had (has) much more going for it than 360, yet its still behind.
