Forums - Sales Discussion - Global software sales for week 51

Hi,

I thought with all this discussion surrounding games and 3rd party support, it would be nice to see how many games have been sold for each system globally since we also have European and Australian data now. Not a bad idea in my opinion.

So here goes:

 Others
America
Japan
 Total
 change
 Wii
 1,822,745 3,147,250 895,511 5,865,506 +47%
 Xbox360
 963,460 2,757,243 35,770 3,793,013 -6.8%
 PS3
 1,024,852 942,195 129,636 2,096,683 +13%

It would also be nice to see the games bought per userbase for each console - if that makes any sense for the week:

  total userbase   new userbase
Wii
   0.47     4.02
Xbox360
   0.27    4.69
PS3
   0.24    3.38

This table shows the amount of games bought per userbase. The first column is vs the entire userbase, while the second column shows the amount of games divided by the amount of hardware sold this week.

I'll try to keep this up, could be interesting.

Some interesting points in my opinion:

  • Wii software outsold PS3 and Xbox360 combined for last week
  • Xbox360 software was the only one down from the previous week
  • PS3 software outsold Xbox360 software in the Others catagory, even though it has almost 1.5 million less in userbase
  • Wii software almost outsold PS3 in Japan 7:1 and Xbox360 25:1
  • It seems that new Xbox360 buyers (the hardware) tend to buy more games than Wii and PS3 buyers.
  • In my opinion, since the Wii games have a higher probability to be bought as Christmas gifts compared to Xbox360 and PS3 games, this will be the high for Wii games for awhile.
